Denver Broncos<\/a>\u00a0star linebacker Alex Singleton was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent successful surgery on Friday, he announced today.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared on his Instagram account, Alex Singleton announced that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after a random drug test for the\u00a0NFL<\/a>. Singleton played in Thursday night\u2019s home win over the\u00a0Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>\u00a0before undergoing successful surgery the following day.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Singleton said the prognosis is \u201cgreat\u201d as it was detected early. Singleton said he expects to resume playing \u201cin the coming weeks\u201d and thanked everyone who helped him during the concerning process:<\/p>\n

In the Thursday night win against the Raiders, Alex Singleton recorded nine tackles, per\u00a0ESPN<\/a>. The 8-2 Broncos sit atop the AFC West and are tied with the\u00a0New England Patriots<\/a>\u00a0and Indianapolis Colts for the best record in football.<\/p>\n

After going undrafted in 2015, Singleton declared for the 2016\u00a0CFL<\/a>\u00a0Draft and was selected sixth overall by the Calgary Stampeders. Singleton earned two CFL All-Star selections and won 2017 Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award, leading the Stampeders to a Grey Cup championship the following year.<\/p>\n

Singleton signed with the\u00a0Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>\u00a0in 2019 and spent three seasons there before signing with the new-look Broncos in 2022. He\u2019s found a friendly home in the Mile High City and has emerged as a quality starter on their defense, with three sacks, nine pass breakups and 460 combined tackles over his first four seasons.<\/p>\n
