California Gov. Gavin Newsom has finally confirmed he\u2019s looking at a\u00a02028 presidential bid<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 but is still playing coy about whether he\u2019ll actually run.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019d be lying otherwise,\u201d Newsom told \u201cCBS News Sunday Morning\u201d in a pre-taped interview, when asked if he was considering a White House campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d just be lying. And I\u2019m not \u2014 I can\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In recent months, Newsom has swung through key early states\u00a0such as South Carolina\u00a0and launched a podcast where he\u2019s honed his debate skills \u2014 sparring with conservative guests.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also turned his social media handles into troll accounts that consistently post bizarre and over-the-top responses to GOP critics, including mimicking President Trump\u2019s signature capitalization-heavy Truth Social style.<\/p>\n

Newsom is term-limited in the Golden State and, therefore, can\u2019t seek a third consecutive term as governor.<\/p>\n

Polls regularly peg the slick-haired pol as a\u00a0top contender in a Democratic primary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFate will determine that,\u201d Newsom added when pressed on whether he\u2019s inching toward a presidential bid.<\/p>\n

The California governor previously drew 2024 presidential buzz but ultimately went all in on former President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea,\u201d Newsom added about whether he will\u00a0vie for the presidency, before referencing his dyslexia. \u201cThe idea that a guy who got 960 on his SAT, that still struggles to read scripts, that was always in the back of the classroom, the idea that you would even throw that out is, in and of itself, extraordinary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho the hell knows? I\u2019m looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment. And that\u2019s the question for the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of his potential foes, former Vice President Kamala Harris, who passed on a run to succeed Newsom as California governor, recently\u00a0teased that she\u2019s contemplating<\/a>\u00a0a 2028 run, telling the BBC, \u201cI am not done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newsom has put an emphasis on punching back hard at Trump and Republicans, seeking to capitalize on progressive frustrations that Democrats are constantly getting steamrolled.<\/p>\n

Recently, he\u2019s pushed for California to tear up its independent redistricting commission to hit back at GOP efforts to engage in rare mid-decade redrawing of congressional district lines to eke out advantages heading into the 2026 midterms.<\/p>\n

The California governor has championed Proposition 50, which would enable the state to temporarily modify its congressional district lines to counter similar GOP efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s about our democracy. It\u2019s about the future of this republic. I think it\u2019s about, you know, what the Founding Fathers lived and died for, this notion of the rule of law, and not the rule of Don,\u201d Newsom chided.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
