Before that, she had brushed off the stabbing pains that \u201cbrought me to my knees\u201d as nothing more than a food intolerance, or food\u00a0allergy.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-75c67145cafe483220ba1a833563b1bc\" class=\"newsner-75c67145cafe483220ba1a833563b1bc newsner-incide_content_once\"><\/div>\n<p>She initially thought the pain wasn\u2019t serious, as she ate healthily and exercised regularly. But the pain grew unbearable, and she was eventually flown by air ambulance to Alice Springs Hospital in Australia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/10\/22092617\/trk.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Morphine offered no relief, and only fentanyl dulled the agony. Once at the hospital, she learned the cancer had spread \u201ceverywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI underwent a series of tests. That\u2019s when I knew it was something serious. I was woken up later that night by a doctor whose words I will never forget\u2026 The weight of those words, accompanied by my question of \u2018How do you know?\u2019 and the doctor\u2019s response, \u2018It\u2019s everywhere,\u2019 shook me to my core,\u201d Krystal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@stoneinthe0cean\/video\/7483200865289997576\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her symptoms, Krystal realized the stabbing pains she had ignored were likely caused by the cancer moving through her body.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-737380094\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-2379290a89aa4578c84a3d5f90d4c392\" class=\"newsner-2379290a89aa4578c84a3d5f90d4c392 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI thought it wasn\u2019t anything sinister. That\u2019s why it became advanced cancer and spread all through my abdomen, liver, ovaries, and starting from my bowel,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt each stabbing pain as it spread in my bowel with a tumour almost blocking it. I felt the lump appear and was told it may just be a lymph node \u2014 that was the tumour I was feeling. As it spread, I felt it reach my ovaries. Never in a million years would I think I would have this cruel disease in my body trying to kill me. Cancer hurts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the three months before being hospitalized, she also experienced persistent fatigue, which she attributed to being a busy mum, and irregular bowel movements she assumed were IBS.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/10\/22092709\/maeu.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Night sweats were another warning sign, which she initially blamed on the Australian summer, waking drenched in sweat multiple times a night.<\/p>\n<p>Before her passing earlier this year, Krystal had been open about her symptoms and encouraged others to get checked early.<\/p>\n<p>She also set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/a-journey-of-strength\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">GoFundMe<\/a> to support her son, Maison, and her family.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Cleveland Clinic, stage 4 is defined by the cancer having spread to other \u201ddistant\u201d parts of the body beyond its original site. At this stage, it is considered metastatic or advanced cancer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/news\/doctor-reveals-the-5-silent-symptoms-of-bowel-cancer-as-cases-surge-in-young-people\/\">Bowel cancer<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/news.cancerresearchuk.org\/2024\/12\/11\/early-onset-bowel-cancer-rise-global-phenomenon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">increasingly affecting<\/a> younger people, even those leading a healthy lifestyle, catching them off guard with its severity. Right now, a lot of research is underway on this issue, especially in the Western world.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-485467386\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-6670bd686fe6a868ca8e10b56e2bb52e\" class=\"newsner-6670bd686fe6a868ca8e10b56e2bb52e newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cEarly-onset colorectal cancer is a growing global phenomenon,\u201d explained Dr. Yin Cao from Washington University in St. Louis, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanonc\/article\/PIIS1470-2045(24)00600-4\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">studied<\/a> this form of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, at the same time, it is still rare.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/10\/22092752\/shutterstock_1984323800.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>According to Dr. Yin Cao\u2019s study, the data showed that in England, Scotland, and some other countries, the rate of early-onset colorectal cancer is rising faster in women than in men \u2014 something that hadn\u2019t been observed before.<\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ki.se\/rising-colorectal-cancer-among-young-adults-in-sweden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recent study<\/a> from Karolinska Institutet found that nearly three times as many people under 50 in Sweden are now diagnosed with colorectal cancer compared to the early 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/bowel-cancer\/symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NHS<\/a>, symptoms of bowel cancer can include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Changes in your pooing habits<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding from your bottom<\/li>\n<li>Feeling like you need to poo even after just going<\/li>\n<li>Tummy pain<\/li>\n<li>A lump in your tummy<\/li>\n<li>Bloating<\/li>\n<li>Losing weight without trying<\/li>\n<li>Feeling very tired for no reason<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If you notice any of these symptoms, it\u2019s important to schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Krystal Maeyke\u2019s life took a sudden and brutal turn in the spring of 2023.
