In a shocking turn of events today, many apps and websites went down and Elon Musk had something rather cheeky to say about it all.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In case you are just getting up or somehow didn\u2019t notice, a whole bunch of\u00a0websites and apps<\/a>\u00a0simply stopped working earlier today (October 20).<\/p>\n

Users quickly turned to website Downdetector, which is primarily used to track how well web services are working for the masses, to report their issues.<\/p>\n

Those impacts included\u00a0Amazon<\/a>\u00a0Web Services,\u00a0Snapchat<\/a>, Canva, Duolingo, and Ring.<\/p>\n

In addition to these, other sites and applications impacted included Roblox, Clash Royale, Life360, Getty Images, My Fitness Pal, Xero, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Clash of Clans, Fortnite, Wordle, Coinbase, HMRC, Vodafone,\u00a0PlayStation<\/a>\u00a0and Pok\u00e9mon Go.<\/p>\n

While many of these websites and\u00a0companies<\/a>\u00a0are not often associated with one another one thing they share in common is their connection with Amazon Web Services.<\/p>\n

The company offers infrastructure to these services and companies and ensures much of the modern internet runs properly.<\/p>\n

According to the company, the issues are affecting Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud, both of which allow companies to rent storage and computers to run their services.<\/p>\n

People quickly took to\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0to complain about \u2018half the internet\u2019 going down.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0took advantage of the situation to make a slight dig at Amazon.<\/p>\n

He simply took to his\u00a0Twitter<\/a>\u00a0page and wrote: \u201cX works.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later retweeted a gif with the caption, ‘Everyone running to X\u2019, as it showed a rabble of people quickly moving down an escalator.<\/p>\n

Many of his supporters praised the billionaire for his savage dig at the other companies, while also mocking the many users who were complaining about the outage.<\/p>\n

One person on Twitter wrote: \u201cHoly s*** the whole f****** internet is down.”<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cWow Amazon Web Services went down and took half the internet with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third wrote: \u201cOf all the things I could’ve expected today I was NOT expecting the whole internet to go down.\u201d<\/p>\n

An update on the website says that engineers are ‘immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause’.<\/p>\n

It added: “We will provide an update in 45 minutes, or sooner if we have additional information to share.”<\/p>\n
