Taylor Swift explained how she had different experiences making her latest two albums, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d and \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department,\u201d in a new interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the last record, I was in such a different place in my life when I wrote it,\u201d Swift, 35, said Monday on\u00a0\u201cScott Mills on Radio 2\u2019s Breakfast Show,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0referring to \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust miserable,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd then when I put it out, I was so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s 11th studio album, which came out April 2024, is believed to be inspired by\u00a0her whirlwind romance<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0The 1975 frontman Matty Healy<\/a>\u00a0following her breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn. The record features heartbreaking hits like \u201cThe Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,\u201d \u201cBut Daddy I Love Him,\u201d \u201cSo Long, London\u201d and \u201cDown Bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it was like, ah, I love this art. I love this beautiful art about misery,\u201d Swift continued on the radio show. \u201cI, however, am not miserable anymore so it feels weird to talk about the record because it\u2019s like, you can be proud of the work, but you can also just not relate to that person you were.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grammy Award winner explained that unlike \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department,\u201d her new album, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl,\u201d is reflective of her current outlook on life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cool thing about this record is that I\u2019m in a very similar space in my life as to when I wrote it and now that I\u2019m putting it out, which is nice\u2026it\u2019s nice when those things are not incongruous,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s\u00a0new 12-track album<\/a>, which came out Friday, is\u00a0filled with upbeat songs<\/a>\u00a0about her romance with fianc\u00e9 Travis Kelce.<\/p>\n

When Swift announced \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d on Kelce\u2019s \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast in August, she said the album \u201cjust comes from, like, the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so that effervescence has come through on this record \u2026 This is the record I\u2019ve been wanting to make for a really long time,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Swift has already set records in the days since she dropped \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Billboard<\/a>\u00a0reported that she sold 2.7 million copies of the album within 24 years of its release, which marks her biggest album opening ever in the U.S. She also sold 1.2 million vinyls since the album\u2019s release, beating her own previous record that she set with \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department\u201d last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
