The\u00a0San Diego Padres<\/a>\u00a0couldn\u2019t contain their anger after falling to the\u00a0Chicago Cubs<\/a>\u00a0in the decisive third game of the NL Wild Card Series on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n Trailing 3-0 in the top of the ninth inning, Jackson Merrill got the Padres on the board with a solo shot into the right field seats. All-Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts then stepped up to the plate, with the tying runner standing beside him in the on-deck circle.<\/p>\n After working a 3-2 count, Bogaerts was run up for strike three by\u00a0home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn on a pitch that was well outside the strike zone<\/a>. The next two Padres reached base, but the rall ended with Jake Cronenworth grounding out and Freddy Fermin flying out to center field.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a video of the controversial call by Reyburn:<\/p>\n
