{"id":39547,"date":"2025-09-26T19:48:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T19:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=39547"},"modified":"2025-09-26T19:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T19:48:08","slug":"camp-mystic-to-reopen-sparking-outrage-from-parents-as-search-for-missing-children-continues-following-flood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=39547","title":{"rendered":"Camp Mystic to reopen sparking outrage from parents as search for missing children continues following flood"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"main-content-blt6a41fc189678bc7a\" class=\"content-template_leftColumnInner__Du7BU\">\n<div class=\"content-template_body__RWRhb\">\n<div style=\"display: contents;\">\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\"><strong>Parents are expressing concern after Camp Mystic announced it will reopen after a deadly flash flood in Texas killed over 130 people, including some of the camp\u2019s children.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">In July, a hoard of children were attending the <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/religion\">Christian<\/a> summer camp, Camp Mystic, when devastating <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/texas-floods\">floods ravaged Central Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">It occurred after a month&#8217;s worth of heavy rain fell in a matter of hours over the 4th of July weekend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"floating-video-player_container__u4D9_\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">This led to water levels in the Guadalupe River rising to breaking point, and it swept over the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/04\/us\/texas-flood-survivors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to<\/a> CNN, at least 135 people were killed in the flood, most who were coming from the Kerr County region where Camp Mystic was situated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">When the water subsided, 27 campers and counsellors were later <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/us-news\/texas\/texas-floods-camp-mystic-death-toll-victims-380563-20250707\">confirmed by Camp Mystic to have died<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-image_articleImage__eyzAn\">\n<div class=\"article-image_imageWrapper__ANtPE\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/images.ladbible.com\/resize?type=webp&amp;quality=70&amp;width=3840&amp;fit=contain&amp;gravity=auto&amp;url=https:\/\/images.ladbiblegroup.com\/v3\/assets\/blt949ea8e16e463049\/blt0543f1cee692849c\/68d6a353c6d257daee350497\/camp-mystic-belongings.jpg\" alt=\"Parents are outraged over the news (Brandon Bell\/Getty Images)\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" data-nimg=\"fill\" \/><\/div>\n<p><cite class=\"image-credit_imageCredit__YMlqS\">Parents are outraged over the news (Brandon Bell\/Getty Images)<\/cite><\/div>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">A statement on the camp&#8217;s website read: &#8220;Camp Mystic is grieving the loss of 27 campers and counsellors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">&#8220;Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Following months of heartbreak, as a lot of <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/parenting\">parents<\/a> are still <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/us-news\/texas-flooding-flash-flood-what-happened-victims-updates-390252-20250707\">searching for their children<\/a> who have yet to be found, Camp Mystic announced it is set to reopen one of its locations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">According to letters sent to families which were obtained by CBS News and KHOU 11 News on September 22, Camp Mystic <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/texas\">Cypress Lake<\/a> will be the location to reopen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The location is close to where Camp Mystic Guadalupe was.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">Right now, more than 100 people are still missing as search efforts continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">As per KHOU11 News, <a class=\"anchor_link__6t7IO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/us-news\/camp-mystic-missing-girls-kerrville-flooding-texas-230907-20250705\">Camp Mystic Guadalupe<\/a> will not be reopening as it was too greatly damaged to be ready for children in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">\u201cWe are writing today to share some updates related to Camp and the next summer season. Thank you so much for your love, support and patience with us during this unprecedented time. We have prayed about next summer daily,\u201d some of the letter read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The letters shared that a memorial would be held too, which is \u2018dedicated to the lives of the campers and counsellors lost on July 4th.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">\u201cWe hope this space will serve as a place of reflection and remembrance of these beautiful girls. For their efforts, we are eternally grateful,\u201d Cici added. \u201cCamp Mystic, however, has only added to our grief. For my family, these months have felt like an eternity. For the camp, it seems like nothing more than a brief pause before business as usual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">\u201cCamp Mystic is pressing ahead with reopening, even if it means inviting girls to swim in the same river that may potentially still hold my daughter\u2019s body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">The Stewards&#8217; letter, which claims to have been written on behalf of the other families who lost children the camp, called on the organization to \u2018halt all discussions of reopening and memorials.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_text__nEn66\">It said: \u201cInstead, Cile must be recovered, and you must fully confront and account for your role in the events and failures that caused the deaths of our daughters.
