People have urged Pok\u00e9mon to sue the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the government over its use of the popular franchise in its latest video. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The DHS has found itself right in the middle of a controversy after the organization posted a video on social media<\/a> that uses imagery and music from Pok\u00e9mon<\/a> over footage of ICE raids.<\/p>\n

The video, which was shared on X<\/a> (formerly Twitter), uses the franchise’s iconic catchphrase ‘Gotta Catch ‘Em All’ in its caption.<\/p>\n

Those words are famous within the show’s universe as the first few seasons follow Ash Ketchum and his friends, who are on their quest to catch various Pok\u00e9mon types in their Pok\u00e9balls to become ‘Pok\u00e9mon Masters’.<\/p>\n

However, in the DHS’s video, images of immigration<\/a> raids and arrests were used instead, along with footage from the Pok\u00e9mon anime<\/a> show.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security used Pokemon motifs in their video of ICE arrests and raids (X\/@DHSgov)<\/cite><\/div>\n

The video also ends with makeshift Pok\u00e9mon cards, which show mugshots of individuals arrested by immigration agents, details about their alleged crimes<\/a>, and their nationalities.<\/p>\n

They also have their weakness listed as \u2018illegal\u2019, with a snowflake included to symbolise ICE, according to<\/a> Fox News.<\/p>\n

Social media<\/a> users have heavily criticized the inclusion of a show that is typically aimed at children, with many suggesting that Nintendo<\/a>, GameFreak, and Creatures, which all own the franchise under The Pok\u00e9mon Company, should sue them.<\/p>\n

One person said: “Hey @Pokemon, please sue the hell out of the government,” while another tagged the Pok\u00e9mon X account and wrote: “You guys cool with them using your IP for this?”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a third wrote: \u201cWe need to channel all of the world’s energy into @NintendoAmerica and @Pokemon to sue the F***** S*** out of Homeland Security for unauthorized visual representation!\u201d<\/p>\n

A fourth wrote: \u201cNINTENDO!!! SUE THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

U.S. Customs and Border Protection commented on the video too, posting a GIF of Pikachu wearing a hat with the words: \u201cBorder Patrol\u2019s newest recruit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nintendo has a history of being very protective of its intellectual property, with the company, as well as The Pok\u00e9mon Company, having issued a patent rights infringement lawsuit in Japan<\/a> against Pocketpair, which created Palworld<\/a>, last year.<\/p>\n

It isn’t the first time an official government account has faced some heat for its social media posts.<\/p>\n

This year, ChatGPT launched its new feature, which enabled users to create pictures in the style of a Studio Ghibli film.<\/p>\n

The White House eventually tweeted a photo of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez’s arrest by an ICE agent, but it was presented in a Studio Ghibli design.<\/p>\n

UNILAD reached out to Nintendo and the Department of Homeland Security for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
