{"id":39166,"date":"2025-09-23T14:50:02","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T14:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=39166"},"modified":"2025-09-23T14:50:02","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T14:50:02","slug":"high-school-football-player-suffers-broken-spine-after-vicious-dirty-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=39166","title":{"rendered":"High School Football Player Suffers Broken Spine After Vicious Dirty Hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<article class=\"single-post\">\n<div class=\"article-sharing side\"><\/div>\n<section>For football video game fans of a certain age, they\u2019ll always remember \u201cNFL Blitz\u201d fondly.<\/p>\n<p>The over-the-top machismo, the rapid-fire arcade gameplay, and the franchise\u2019s general lack of adherence to physics endeared itself to generations of gamers and football fans.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the other thing that \u201cNFL Blitz\u201d is best known for is that the game allowed you to hit opponents after the whistle:<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width: 100%; display: block; margin: 1.5em auto; aspect-ratio: 16 \/ 9;\" title=\"NFL Blitz Late Hit\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3IPZZvaKcV0?feature=oembed\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Those late hits obviously are not a part of the actual game of football \u2014 and for good reason, as a horrific incident in a Michigan high school football game demonstrated.<\/p>\n<div id=\"stnvideo\">\n<div data-stn-player=\"s28Az7AY\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/michigan-hs-took-strong-decisive-action-against-player-over-disturbing-play-athletics-org-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, a Kalamazoo Central High School football player crossed a major sportsmanship line when he jumped on a prone Lakeshore High School student-athlete on Thursday in a scene that looked like it was right out of \u201cBlitz,\u201d except much, much more real.<\/p>\n<p>You can view the disturbing video below for yourself, courtesy of local CBS affiliate WWMT-TV.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Warning: The content of this video may be offensive to some viewers.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/78Xkr9yaxX\">https:\/\/t.co\/78Xkr9yaxX<\/a> A 15-year-old boy playing for Lakeshore Highschool was being blocked and then jumped on by an opposing player.<\/p>\n<p>The video was taken by the injured player\u2019s mom Courtney Mims and she recounted her reaction after seeing her son was injured. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xhFdKe8ZBO\">pic.twitter.com\/xhFdKe8ZBO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 News Channel 3 WWMT-TV (@wwmtnews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wwmtnews\/status\/1969150604225171565?\">September 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-question\">Should the offending player face legal ramifications?<\/div>\n<div id=\"pollFormBox\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results-yes\" style=\"width: 100%;\">Yes: 100% (20 Votes)<\/div>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results-no\" style=\"width: 0%;\">No: 0% (0 Votes)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the incident in question, a play between the two football programs had been declared dead. The play was over.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, one of the Kalamazoo Central students proceeded to body slam a prone opponent with his full weight, far away from anywhere that the action was even taking place.<\/p>\n<p>Worst of all, the prone Lakeshore High student suffered a devastating injury: Spinal fractures, per <a href=\"https:\/\/wwmt.com\/news\/local\/disturbing-conduct-leaves-lakeshore-jv-football-player-with-spine-fractures-junior-varsity-game-high-school-kalamazoo-central-video-injuries-unsportsman-like\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WWMT<\/a>\u2018s report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur staff has been speaking with both schools since Friday. Kalamazoo Central has taken this matter very seriously and they have taken strong and decisive action,\u201d the Michigan High School Athletics Association told Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to student privacy laws, we cannot disclose the specific accountability actions, but they have exceeded what MHSAA regulations would otherwise require in cases of dangerous and unsportsmanlike behavior,\u201d the group added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur schools can provide additional details as they decide to do so, since they are handling things internally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kalamazoo Public Schools provided a further statement to Fox News as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn incident that occurred during Kalamazoo Central High School\u2019s Junior Varsity football game on Sept. 19 was the action of an individual student who displayed an egregious act against a player on the opposing team,\u201d Kalamazoo Public Schools said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis type of behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity that Kalamazoo Public Schools expects from student-athletes, coaches and the entire school community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>School officials added that the offending Kalamazoo student \u201creceived consequences consistent with the Kalamazoo Public Schools Student Code of Conduct and in compliance with Michigan High School Athletic Association regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lakeshore student who suffered the spinal fractures was identified as Colton by his mother, Courtney Mims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as it clicked that it was, I couldn\u2019t be stopped. I had to go down there. I\u2019ve never felt anything like it.
