This over-the-counter drug, sold as <em>Tylenol<\/em> in the US and <em>Panadol<\/em> in the UK, is often used for pain, fever, and headaches.<\/p>\n<p>Studies have already linked prenatal paracetamol to higher cases of <strong>autism and ADHD<\/strong>. \u201cEven a small increase in risk could have major public health implications,\u201d said Dr. Didier Prada of Mount Sinai Hospital. Researchers stress that pregnant women should not stop treatment suddenly but should always consult doctors.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><\/figure>\n<p>Harvard scientists recently urged expectant mothers to take paracetamol only when necessary and at the <strong>lowest possible dose<\/strong>. One report concluded: \u201cThere was strong evidence of a relationship between prenatal acetaminophen use and increased risk of autism in children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts caution that results are not yet conclusive.
