French leader Emmanuel Macron got an authentic New York experience when his car was blocked by UN traffic \u2014 with the head of state filmed getting out to walk and even calling President Trump for help.<\/p>\n

Bizarre video showed the European leader begging an NYPD cop to help him get through on Monday, soon after he finished giving a controversial speech to the United Nations,\u00a0according to French outlet Brut<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really sorry, Mr. President, everything is currently blocked,\u201d the apologetic officer tells Macron, who tries to convince the cop to let him through if Trump\u2019s convoy is not immediately passing by.<\/p>\n

Frazzled, Macron then makes a call \u2014 seemingly to Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow are you? Guess what, I\u2019m waiting in the street because everything is closed for you,\u201d Macron says, laughing in the call, seemingly to his American counterpart.<\/p>\n

The French leader was then forced to make the next 30 minutes of his journey on foot through the streets of Manhattan, according to Brut.<\/p>\n

Macron appeared to take the potential diplomatic incident in stride, smiling and posing for pictures with gawking passersby.<\/p>\n

At one point, a man who was having his picture taken with the French president bent down and kissed him on the head, forcing Macron to tell his panicked security team to stand down.<\/p>\n

President Trump is due to speak at the UN on Tuesday.REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cNo, no, it\u2019s okay, guys,\u201d he said to his minders, before laughing again.<\/p>\n

The NYPD did not respond immediately to requests for comment.<\/p>\n

Macron used his trip to New York to formally recognize the \u201cState of Palestine\u201d on behalf of France at the UN, becoming the latest country to do so after Australia, Canada, the UK and Portugal all made similar announcements in recent days.<\/p>\n

The French president\u2019s gesture, while largely symbolic, is intended to increase pressure on Israel to bring about an end to the conflict in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Trump is expected to speak at the UN on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
