{"id":3888,"date":"2024-08-12T01:19:34","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T01:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=3888"},"modified":"2024-08-12T01:19:34","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T01:19:34","slug":"most-voters-believe-trump-will-make-them-richer-but-they-trust-harris-more-on-the-economy-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=3888","title":{"rendered":"Most voters believe Trump will make them richer, but they trust Harris more on the economy: poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>alk about mixed signals.<\/p>\n<p>In a new poll, voters said they believe they\u2019d be in better financial shape under former\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/10\/us-news\/trump-to-host-town-halls-if-harris-bails-on-fox-news-nbc-debate-offers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/10\/us-news\/harris-copies-trumps-no-tax-on-tip-policy-in-nevada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 by a nine-point margin.<\/p>\n<p>But, at the same time, a slight majority said they more faith in the veep to shepherd the US economy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3889\" src=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/45-300x224.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/45-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/45.png 530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About 42% of registered voters felt they\u2019d be \u201cmuch\u201d or \u201csomewhat\u201d\u00a0better off if Trump wins in November \u2014 while 33% said the same about Harris,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cf9a7c4d-3b82-4867-892c-f4f95daebbc7?shareType=nongift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a survey by the Financial Times<\/a>\u00a0and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.<\/p>\n<div id=\"connatix-outstream-video\">\n<p>Simultaneously, Harris narrowly eked out an advantage over Trump when it comes to trust on economic issues, 42% to 41%. It marks the first time the 45th president has been topped on the issue in the poll since tracking began about a year ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"piano-container\">\n<div id=\"piano-paywall\" class=\"piano-container--inner\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--more inline-module--more inline-module--trending inline-module--more--thirds\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3890\" src=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/045-300x198.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/045-300x198.webp 300w, https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/045-768x507.webp 768w, https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/045.webp 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The vice president has been short on specifics since getting thrust into the Democratic nomination.<span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That marks a 7-point jump relative to President Biden\u2019s figures on the economy from the group\u2019s most recent prior survey.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the FT-Michigan Ross poll was conducted online by a Democratic strategist firm, Global Strategy Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that voters were more positive on Harris than on Biden\u2009.\u2009.\u2009.\u2009says as much about how badly Biden was doing as it does about how well Harris is doing,\u201d Erik Gordon, a professor at the university, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Just a quarter of voters appraised the economy as \u201cexcellent\u201d or \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the more economic-specific question about confronting China on trade issues, 43% trusted Trump more than Harris (39%), per the survey.<\/p>\n<p>Overwhelming, Americans point to inflation as the top issue heading into the Nov. 5 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Broadly speaking, a paltry 19% of voters feel that they are in better shape today than when Biden took office, according to the FT-Michigan Ross poll.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3891\" src=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/0045-300x200.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/0045-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/0045.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Donald Trump had been polling stronger against President Biden than Kamala Harris.<span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, a sizeable chunk of those voters do not appear to be faulting Harris.<\/p>\n<p>A firm 60% of respondents argued that Harris should either completely distance herself from Biden\u2019s economic agenda or \u201cmake major changes,\u201d per the survey.<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, the poll\u2019s finding about voters having more faith in Harris to handle the economy appears to be an outlier, as most surveys still peg Trump with an advantage on economic issues, which is routinely found to be voters\u2019 No. 1 concern.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2024-07-30\/kamala-harris-erases-trump-s-swing-state-lead-in-2024-election-poll?sref=MTy2GeXk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg News\/Morning Consult poll<\/a>\u00a0of swing state voters found Trump ahead (50% to 42%) when it comes to the question of \u201cWho do you trust more to handle the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the FT-Michigan Ross\u2019 findings about voters feeling they\u2019d be in better financial shape under Trump compared to Harris echoes the results of a handful of polls.<\/p>\n<p>For instance,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/08\/08\/trump-holds-2-point-lead-over-harris-with-a-big-advantage-on-economy-cnbc-survey-shows.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC\u2019s recent All-America Economic Survey<\/a>\u00a0found that by a margin of 2-to-1, Americans believe they will be in better financial shape under Trump than Harris. That poll sampled 1,001 Americans from July 31 to Aug. 4 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>Still, across the board, polls have generally found Harris faring much better against Trump than Biden.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3892\" src=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/00045-300x216.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/00045-300x216.webp 300w, https:\/\/usdailys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/00045.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled Tim Walz as her running mate last week.<span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In terms of job approval, Harris scored a 46% approval rating, eclipsing the 41% that Biden scored in the FT-Michigan Ross poll.<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking, polls pegged Harris\u2019 favorability ratings underwater, but after Biden dropped out and she abruptly ascended to the Democratic Party nomination, her approvals shot up.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had long been ahead of Biden in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/general\/2024\/trump-vs-harris-vs-kennedy-vs-stein-vs-west\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RealClearPolitics aggregate<\/a>\u00a0of national polling, but now Harris has a 0.8-point lead in the most recent RCP aggregate of a five-way race.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Trump is ahead in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/maps\/president\/2024\/no-toss-up\/electoral-college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RCP\u2019s no-tossup Electoral College<\/a>\u00a0map projection based on its polling averages, 287 to 251.<\/p>\n<p>His team has begun lashing out at polls showing a higher race, something its pollster Tony Fabrizio predicted would take place after Biden dropped out of the contest.<\/p>\n<p>The FT-Michigan Ross Poll surveyed 1,001 registered voters between Aug. 1 to 5 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>Harris has been light on policy specifics since catapulting to the Democratic nomination, but she told reporters that she intends to unveil a platform this week \u201cfocused on the economy and what we need to do to bring down costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>alk about mixed signals.
