The suspect in the Charlie Kirk assassination<\/a> was identified on Friday as 22-year-old<\/a> Tyler Robinson. The breakthrough in the investigation into the latest incident of “political violence” was later announced by Utah<\/a> Governor Spencer Cox and FBI Director Kash Patel in a joint press conference.<\/p>\n

Tyler Robinson<\/a>, the suspect, reportedly confessed to a family member that he had committed the crime, who reported him to the Washington County sheriff. The FBI was alerted and made “historic progress” in apprehending the suspect in “less than 33 hours.”<\/p>\n

Patel gave a brief timeline of the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn less than 33 hours, thanks to the full weight of the federal government and leading with the partners here in the state of Utah,<\/a> the suspect was apprehended in a historic time period”, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Brief Timeline of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the investigation’s “historic progress”:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cox said the UVU surveillance footage showed the 22-year-old suspect arriving on campus at 8:29 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n

Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old political activist and Trump supporter, was shot at 12:23 pm on Sept. 10 at Utah<\/a> Valley University, where he was addressing students. The first FBI agents arrived at the scene in 16 minutes, said Kash Patel, and secured the scene.<\/p>\n

The bureau released the first photos of the suspect on the morning of 9\/11, followed by the announcement of a cash reward.<\/p>\n

A “never-before-seen video” of the suspect was released in a press conference at 8:00 p.m. local time. He was seen walking on the roof of the building from where the shot was fired, and then seen climbing down and running towards the wooded area from where the murder weapon was found.<\/p>\n

Robinson’s family told the investigators he had become “more political in recent years” and had mentioned that Kirk was due to appear at an upcoming event in Utah<\/a>. He had reportedly said, \u201cKirk was full of hate and spreading hate.”<\/p>\n

The manhunt for Robinson lasted for more than 30 hours, during which the authorities received more than 7,000 leads and tips. Before Robinson’s apprehension, two separate persons of interest were detained on Wednesday. Neither was determined to be connected to the shooting and were released.<\/p>\n
