Biggs questioned why the FBI director was \u201cspeculating\u201d rather than providing confirmed information.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\" style=\"margin: 8px 0; clear: both;\"><!-- RevContent --><\/p>\n<div data-widget-host=\"revcontent\" data-pub-id=\"180567\" data-widget-id=\"284824\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"1176\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"1016\">Stop all this click-bait shit you keep doing,<\/strong>\u201d Biggs wrote on X, directly tagging Patel. \u201cIt\u2019s unbecoming of the office in which you represent and only proves you were a horrible pick for this position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1279\"><strong data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1196\">Kyle Seraphin,<\/strong> a right-wing former FBI agent and occasional Patel critic, was equally scathing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1281\" data-end=\"1389\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1336\">FBI director fucked up and is desperate for a win,<\/strong>\u201d Seraphin posted. \u201cThis is absolutely ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1485\">Echoing the criticism, <strong data-start=\"1414\" data-end=\"1443\">Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)<\/strong> slammed Patel\u2019s handling of the crisis.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1666\">\n<p data-start=\"1488\" data-end=\"1666\">\u201cIt was amateur hour. He was doing a running commentary. Historically, the FBI keeps its mouth closed until it believes it\u2019s the right time and the right message,\u201d Durbin said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1967\">The uproar mirrors concerns Democrats voiced long before this incident, when Patel \u2014 a former Trump administration official who later reinvented himself as a right-wing podcaster and entrepreneur \u2014 was nominated to head the FBI. At the time of his confirmation hearings in February, Durbin warned:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2163\">\n<p data-start=\"1970\" data-end=\"2163\">\u201cAfter meeting with Mr. Patel, reviewing his record, and questioning him at his hearing, I am convinced that he has neither the experience, the judgment, nor the temperament to lead the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2569\">The controversy erupted in the wake of the <strong data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2250\">Sept. 10 assassination of Charlie Kirk<\/strong>, 31, founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was shot in the neck at <strong data-start=\"2315\" data-end=\"2341\">Utah Valley University<\/strong> in Orem during his <strong data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2390\">\u201cAmerican Comeback Tour.\u201d<\/strong> The gunfire triggered chaos as thousands of students and attendees fled the courtyard, while campus and local police scrambled to lock down the area and track down the shooter.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2571\" data-end=\"2788\">According to timelines, Kirk was struck around <strong data-start=\"2618\" data-end=\"2640\">2:20 p.m. Eastern.<\/strong> By <strong data-start=\"2644\" data-end=\"2666\">2:53 p.m. Eastern,<\/strong> Patel had already issued a statement claiming the FBI was monitoring the situation and would deploy agents immediately.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"3146\">Complicating matters further, photos circulated online shortly after the attack showed Utah police detaining an older man at the scene. Later identified as a <strong data-start=\"2948\" data-end=\"3012\">71-year-old local with a reputation as a \u201cpolitical gadfly,\u201d<\/strong> the man was charged with <strong data-start=\"3038\" data-end=\"3064\">obstruction of justice<\/strong> but was not connected to the shooting itself, the <em data-start=\"3115\" data-end=\"3134\">Salt Lake Tribune<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3148\" data-end=\"3344\">A second individual was also detained as a person of interest, questioned, and released without charges. Authorities have since confirmed that <strong data-start=\"3291\" data-end=\"3342\">neither man had any ties to the fatal shooting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"http:\/\/allmyvista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/68c2ea06190000e75a34cc44.webp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"136\" data-end=\"311\">At <strong data-start=\"139\" data-end=\"160\">6:21 p.m. Eastern<\/strong>, FBI Director <strong data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"189\">Kash Patel<\/strong> announced on X that the \u201csubject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"313\" data-end=\"412\">The post exploded across social media, amassing nearly <strong data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"388\">35 million views<\/strong> in a matter of hours.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"735\">But just minutes after Patel\u2019s sweeping declaration, <strong data-start=\"467\" data-end=\"496\">Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R)<\/strong> contradicted him during a press conference, stating only that a \u201cperson of interest\u201d had been detained. At the same event, <strong data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"666\">Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason<\/strong> went further, confirming that Kirk\u2019s shooter was still \u201cat large.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1012\">Then, at <strong data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"767\">7:59 p.m. Eastern<\/strong>\u2014a little more than an hour after his initial statement\u2014Patel returned to X. This time, without acknowledging his earlier error about the gunman being captured, he vaguely stated that a \u201csubject in custody\u201d had been released after questioning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1014\" data-end=\"1139\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"1015\" data-end=\"1123\">Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency,<\/strong>\u201d Patel wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1141\" data-end=\"1290\">Yet Patel never clarified whether the person he referenced was one of the two men Utah police had already questioned or someone entirely different.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1597\">Traditionally, in high-profile investigations of this nature, critical updates are not rolled out haphazardly on social media by the FBI director. Such announcements are generally delivered by local police, often in coordination with regional law enforcement partners, including local FBI field offices.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1599\" data-end=\"1897\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1624\">It was amateur hour,<\/strong>\u201d said <strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1660\">Sen. Agents had located what they believed to be the <strong data-start=\"2184\" data-end=\"2201\">murder weapon<\/strong>, along with <strong data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2274\">footwear impressions, a palm print, and forearm imprints<\/strong> for forensic analysis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2301\" data-end=\"2567\">Patel\u2019s leadership of the FBI was already under a harsh spotlight. On Wednesday, <strong data-start=\"2382\" data-end=\"2419\">three former senior FBI officials<\/strong> filed a lawsuit claiming Patel had unlawfully fired them for purely political reasons, including their involvement in prosecuting Jan. 6 rioters.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2872\">The lawsuit described in detail how Patel had commissioned an unusually large <strong data-start=\"2647\" data-end=\"2667\">\u201cchallenge coin\u201d<\/strong> to distribute among his subordinates, engraved with his name stylized as \u201c<strong data-start=\"2742\" data-end=\"2757\">Ka$h Patel.<\/strong>\u201d It also referenced his office, which was reportedly stocked with an extensive <strong data-start=\"2837\" data-end=\"2870\">whiskey and cigar collection.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2874\" data-end=\"3164\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"3005\">Patel not only acted unlawfully but deliberately chose to prioritize politicizing the FBI over protecting the American people,<\/strong>\u201d the plaintiffs \u2014 <strong data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3076\">Brian Driscoll, Steven Jensen, and Spencer Evans<\/strong> \u2014 asserted in their complaint filed against Patel and Attorney General <strong data-start=\"3148\" data-end=\"3162\">Pam Bondi.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3166\" data-end=\"3588\">The three former officials, who identified themselves as seasoned career professionals, argued that they represented precisely the type of leadership the Bureau required to counter complex public threats.
