It seems the internet is showing its darkest side after all. On Wednesday, September 10, after news broke that conservative commentator Charlie Kirk had been shot and killed at Utah Valley College, some people online celebrated his death. That reaction was not at all acceptable to former\u00a0NFL<\/a>\u00a0star Dez Bryant.<\/p>\n

Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the biggest names to wear a\u00a0Dallas Cowboys<\/a>\u00a0jersey in the 2010s, jumped straight into the conversation. He called out those cheering Kirk\u2019s death and was not shy from being clear on this.\u00a0\u201cSeeing people who are excited about Charlie Kirk dying are (messed) up human beings\u2026Sending love to his family,\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Bryant posted on X. He later added,\u00a0\u201cCharlie Kirk.. wow.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kirk, 31, left behind his wife Erika and two children.\u00a0A gunman shot him in the neck during a speaking event at Utah Valley College<\/a>. Doctors rushed him to a hospital, but he didn\u2019t survive. The Illinois-born activist built one of the biggest conservative platforms in the country, with four million YouTube subscribers and a constant presence on college campuses.<\/p>\n

Bryant wasn\u2019t the only athlete to speak up for Kirk.\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>\u00a0kicker\u00a0Harrison Butker wrote on X<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cThank you for your strong witness for Christ @charliekirk11. Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Robert Griffin III<\/a>\u00a0also joined in and was quite disappointed with this kind of open shooting and celebrating it.\u00a0\u201cThe Charlie Kirk Shooting was disturbing, disgusting and wrong. Praying for Charlie Kirk\u2019s wife, kids and family. It\u2019s okay to disagree with someone\u2019s political views, but celebrating his death makes you a despicable human.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0he\u00a0posted<\/a>\u00a0for Kirk.<\/p>\n

Tributes stretched beyond football. The\u00a0New York Yankees<\/a>\u00a0held a moment of silence before their game on Wednesday night.\u00a0\u201cKirk founded the youth activist group \u2018Turning Point USA\u2019 and had become a fixture on college campuses. Charlie Kirk, a husband and father of two children, was 31 years old,\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the team announced to fans in the stadium.<\/p>\n

Even\u00a0President Donald Trump showed his tribute<\/a>. On Truth Social, he wrote,\u00a0\u201cThe Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie\u2026Charlie, we love you!\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Trump also ordered flags across the nation lowered to half-mast until Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
