MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd<\/a>\u00a0was fired from the network after his comments about Charlie Kirk following Kirk\u2019s shooting at Utah Valley University,\u00a0Variety said, citing sources<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place,\u201d Dowd, who most recently ran as a Democrat for Texas lieutenant governor, said\u00a0moments after the shooting on Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the unfortunate environment we\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n

MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler quickly rushed to put out the fire after Dowd\u2019s comments sparked backlash online.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>\u201cDuring our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable,\u201d Kutler said\u00a0in a statement on X<\/a>\u00a0after the segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise,\u201d Kutler said.<\/p>\n

The outlet ultimately axed Dowd for his \u201cinsensitive\u201d words later Wednesday,\u00a0sources told Variety.<\/a><\/p>\n

Dowd also strangely suggested during the segment that a supporter could have killed Kirk by firing a gun in \u201ccelebration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration,\u201d Dowd told anchor Katy Tur.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have no idea,\u201d he told the lefty network. \u201cWe don\u2019t know any of the full details of this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dowd joined MSNBC in 2022 after a long career at ABC News.<\/p>\n

The political analyst later apologized for his comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy thoughts & prayers are w\/ the family and friends of Charlie Kirk,\u201d Dowd said. \u201cOn an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack.<\/p>\n
