Political analyst Matthew Dowd has been fired from\u00a0MSNBC<\/a>\u00a0after his comments about the death of conservative activist\u00a0Charlie Kirk<\/a>, according to a network source.<\/p>\n During MSNBC\u2019s coverage of Kirk\u2019s shooting, anchor Katy Tur asked Dowd about \u201cthe environment in which a shooting like this happens.\u201d Dowd responded with the following about Kirk: \u201cHe\u2019s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in. You can\u2019t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that\u2019s the unfortunate environment we are in.\u201d<\/p>\n The remarks sparked outrage across social media, and MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler\u00a0issued an apology<\/a>\u00a0in response. She slammed Dowd\u2019s comments as \u201cinappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe apologize for his statements, as has he,\u201d Kutler said in a statement shared to the\u00a0MSNBC Public Relations X account<\/a>. \u201cThere is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n Dowd issued his own apology for his commentary on his\u00a0BlueSky<\/a>\u00a0account. He wrote, \u201cI apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack.
