President Donald Trump<\/a> quickly placed blame for conservative activist Charlie Kirk\u2019s assassination<\/a> on the rhetoric of the \u201cradical left,\u201d despite no evidence yet indicating the shooter\u2019s motive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In a video message<\/a> posted by the White House on Wednesday evening, Trump mourned the loss of Kirk, a fierce ally of the president\u2019s who helped Trump build support among young conservatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI am filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah,\u201d Trump said. \u201cCharlie inspired millions, and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Trump continued: \u201cHe\u2019s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there\u2019s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After praising Kirk for his commitment to his Christian faith, Trump pivoted to blaming the shooting on the \u201cradical left,\u201d claiming that people who described Kirk as a Nazi are \u201cdirectly responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree,\u201d Trump said. \u201cFor years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world\u2019s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we\u2019re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There is currently no suspect in custody, nor are there any indications from investigators of the shooter\u2019s possible motive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trump said his administration would track down every person who \u201ccontributed to this atrocity.\u201d He then went on to list several acts of violence he blamed on the \u201cleft,\u201d including the 2024 assassination attempt against him, the shooting at a congressional baseball team practice in 2017 that left Rep. Steve Scalise injured and the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cRadical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Trump did not mention any of the many recent examples<\/a> of violence against left-leaning politicians, including the shooting of two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota this summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Trump\u2019s comments are likely to fuel further calls from his most fervent supporters to seek retribution for Kirk\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

On Fox News<\/a>, host Jesse Watters<\/a> vowed<\/a> to \u201cavenge\u201d Kirk\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
