The House of Representatives<\/a>\u00a0burst into chaos as Speaker Mike Johnson<\/a> attempted to lead a prayer for Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated in Utah<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Father-of-two Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization that regularly holds events on college campuses nationwide, was shot in the neck at an event at Utah Valley University<\/a> in Orem and died about two and half hours later.<\/p>\n His assassination not only devastated many members of Congress<\/a> who knew the activist personally, but unleashed sadness, confusion and anger among lawmakers in the Capitol<\/a>\u00a0on both sides of the political spectrum.<\/p>\n ‘Political violence must be called out,’ Johnson said in a statement about an hour after the shooting.<\/p>\n ‘We need everyone who has a platform to say this loudly and clearly: we can settle disagreements and disputes in a civil manner.’<\/p>\n He then went inside and held a moment of silence for Kirk on the chamber floor as questions swirled about whether the father-of-two was alive or dead.<\/p>\n Following the somber moment of silence, Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., called out to Johnson to hold a moment of prayer for the 31-year-old.<\/p>\n That’s when things got ugly.<\/p>\n Some Democrats, clearly against the request for prayer, began cheering in unison ‘No!’<\/p>\n Speaker Johnson leads the House in a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk, but the moment was marred soon after when some Democrats shouted about gun control and protested a request from Lauren Boebert for a prayer for Kirk and his family<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Charlie Kirk with his wife and one of his two children<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
