Bill Belichick<\/a>\u00a0and his new girlfriend,\u00a0Jordon Hudson<\/a>, have reportedly seen multiple trademark applications rejected due to their association with the New England Patriots.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has refused four trademark applications from the UNC head coach and his partner, claiming that they would cause a\u00a0\u201clikelihood of confusion\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0due to previous filings.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, the Pats, Belichick\u2019s old team, hold the rights to the trademarks Hudson tried to secure back in April. These include \u201cDo Your Job (Bill\u2019s Version),\u201d \u201cIgnore the Noise (Bill\u2019s Version),\u201d \u201cThe Belestrator (Bill\u2019s Version),\u201d and \u201cNo Days Off (Bill\u2019s Version).\u201d<\/p>\n

The Patriots trademarked \u201cThe Belestrator\u201d in 2009, \u201cDo Your Job\u201d in 2013, while \u201cNo Days Off\u201d and \u201cIgnore the Noise\u201d were both trademarked in 2017.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s now no love lost between Bill and the Pats. In fact,\u00a0the team\u2019s scouts have been banned from UNC<\/a>\u00a0on the coach\u2019s orders.<\/p>\n

The USPTO announced its decision last week, revealing that it rejected the requests because\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cit is likely consumers would be confused, mistaken or deceived as to the commercial source of the goods and\/or services of the parties.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very obvious that the USPTO would refuse these applications from the start,\u201d trademark attorney Josh Gerben said (H\/T\u00a0ESPN<\/a>). \u201cThey\u2019re too similar. Like, I can\u2019t say I\u2019m going to make \u2018Nike shoes (Josh\u2019s version).\u2019 Once somebody has a trademark registered on a name or a phrase, you\u2019re not able to just simply add something to it and get it registered.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

TCE Rights Management, a company associated with Belichick and Hudson, said in the application that they wanted the trademarks for clothing, audio and video streaming material, books, and media production such as films, podcasts, and DVDs.<\/p>\n

While the requests have been refused, the UNC store has been\u00a0selling some curious Jordon Hudson-themed merch<\/a>\u00a0this season.<\/p>\n

According to Gerben, the Patriots would not be informed of an application featuring previously trademarked terms. Instead, the applying party would be made aware.<\/p>\n

TCE has three months to appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Jordon, whose\u00a0see-through bag revealed some interesting notes<\/a>\u00a0on the sideline during a recent Tar Heels game, should be good to go with other trademarks such as \u201cChapel Bill,\u201d \u201cGold Digger,\u201d and \u201cTrail of Salty Tears.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
