game of the NFL season, but there was more to the situation than initially believed.<\/p>\n<p>After the NBC broadcast eventually showed footage of Dak Prescott spitting first, former Cowboys coach and current NBC host Jason Garrett said on the postgame show that Carter thought the quarterback spat at him before the first play of an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/05\/sports\/eagles-hold-off-cowboys-to-open-super-bowl-defense-with-win\/\">eventual 24-20 Eagles win in Philadelphia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed would I need to spit on you for?\u2019 He just spit on me in that moment, it was more of a surprise than anything,\u201d Prescott said,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/dak-prescott-jalen-carter-ejection-unfortunate-i-wasnt-trying-to-spit-on-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Pro Football Talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carter apologized to his teammates after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a mistake that happened on my side. It won\u2019t happen again,\u201d Carter said according to the Associated Press. \u201cI feel bad for just my teammates and fans out there. I\u2019m doing it for them. I\u2019m doing it for my family, also. The fans, they showed the most love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether Carter will face further discipline for his actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know how excited each and every one of us are right to kick off the season and the season opener, and hell of a player like that doesn\u2019t even get a chance in the first play,\u201d Prescott said. \u201cUnfortunate circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure
