Travis Kelce opened up about his engagement to Taylor Swift on the Sept. 3 episode of New Heights<\/p>\n

Travis said he “once thought” he’d propose in an entirely different way from his garden proposal to Swift, surrounded by floral arrangements<\/p>\n

The NFL star said he urged others to “know your gal” when deciding how best to pop the question<\/p>\n

Travis Kelce could have had a totally different love story with Taylor Swift!
\nThe 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed that he once pictured his engagement entirely differently from the garden proposal he landed on with Swift.
\n\u201cI once thought I would do it on water,\u201d Travis shared on the Sept. 3 episode of his and brother Jason Kelce\u2019s New Heights podcast.
\nHowever, he shared the importance of deciding on an appropriate way to propose based on your significant other.
\n\u201cMan, you’ve gotta know your gal. You’ve gotta know your gal or your significant other. You\u2019ve gotta know them,\u201d Travis shared when asked for advice on how best to pop the question. \u201cYou can’t let how somebody else does it make you feel like you need to do it that way.\u201d
\nHe added, \u201cI would just say know your partner, know who you’re doing it for and do it for the right reasons and everything else will be beautiful.\u201d
\nTravis and the \u201cSo High School\u201d singer announced their engagement on Aug. 26, sharing photos of the milestone moment on Instagram, writing, \u201cYour English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married \ud83e\udde8\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about the engagement on New Heights, Travis said, \u201cI appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something and all the posts and all the excitement that’s been going on. It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with.”
\nOf calling Swift his fianc\u00e9e,\u201d Travis added, \u201cI still get giddy, exciting times.\u201d
\nAnd while he didn\u2019t ask Swift to marry him on the water in the end, Travis previously posted pics alongside his love with the pair of them wearing \u201cCaptain\u201d and \u201cFirst Mate\u201d hats and all-white ensembles.
\n\u201cHad some adventures this offseason, kept it \ud83d\udcaf,\u201d he wrote on Instagram in July alongside the snap which was included in a carousel of images.<\/p>\n

As for the next steps, Travis shared on the podcast that he\u2019s preparing for wedding planning with Swift.
\n\u201cI cannot wait to hear more of the planning and everything that will take place,\u201d Travis\u2019 older brother, Jason, teased him on New Heights. \u201cTravis, you\u2019re about to embark on the wedding planning phase of a relationship.\u201d
