Last week, the\u00a0Indianapolis Colts<\/a>\u00a0shocked the world when they\u00a0announced that Daniel Jones would be the starter<\/a>\u00a0for the upcoming 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Head coach Shane Steichen announced the decision on August 19, 2025, naming the free agent acquisition as the starter over the team\u2019s 2023 first-round pick,\u00a0Anthony Richardson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath, many on social media, including\u00a0Robert Griffin III<\/a>, accused the\u00a0Colts of trying to tank for Arch Manning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jones could have picked any number of teams after he was unceremoniously dumped by the\u00a0New York Giants<\/a>\u00a0last year. He had a particular destination in mind, and it has worked out well for him.<\/p>\n

For Jones, that patience is already paying dividends. After his brief stint holding a clipboard behind Vikings starter\u00a0Sam Darnold<\/a>, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in March, and now he is the man going forward.<\/p>\n

This week, another announcement was to be made, and even his teammate couldn\u2019t believe it.<\/p>\n

The Colts announced their 53-man roster on Tuesday, which included three quarterbacks: Jones, Richardson, and rookie Riley Leonard.<\/p>\n

Head coach Shane Steichen announced on Thursday that Jones is one of five captains for the Colts for the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

It is no surprise that the starting quarterback is also a captain, but it does come as a shock to a first-year player on a new team.<\/p>\n

Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, linebacker Zaire Franklin, cornerback Kenny Moore, and guard Quenton Nelson are the other Colts captains this season.<\/p>\n

The Colts released footage this week showing the players being announced to everybody.<\/p>\n
