News of Travis Kelce<\/strong><\/a> and Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2019s internet-breaking engagement has officially hit the White House.<\/p>\n

While taking questions during a public cabinet meeting on Tuesday, August 26, President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> reacted to the news that the pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end were officially, after two years of dating, planning a trip down the wedding aisle.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I wish them a lot of luck,\u201d Trump, 79, said after he was asked to weigh in on the news by a reporter, per footage shared by CSPAN<\/a> and various media outlets. \u201cNo, I think he\u2019s a great player. I think he\u2019s a great guy. And I think that she\u2019s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift and Kelce announced the joyous news in a joint Instagram post<\/a> on Tuesday, sharing photos of Kelce\u2019s garden proposal and Swift\u2019s massive old mine brilliant cut diamond engagement ring. (The ring, set on a gold band featuring additional small stones, was designed by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry.)<\/p>\n

\u201cYour English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,\u201d the pair captioned the post, which was set to Swift\u2019s song \u201cSo High School,\u201d which is about her romance with her now-fianc\u00e9.<\/p>\n

While Trump had nothing but positive things to say about the pair\u2019s engagement, he has publicly insulted Swift in the past. Just earlier this month, Trump attacked Swift via his social media app, Truth Social, comparing her to Sydney Sweeney<\/strong> in the wake of her American Eagle ad controversy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After Swift endorsed Trump\u2019s 2024 presidential election rival, former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong>, Trump attacked Swift online, posting \u201cI HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!\u201d on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

In May, Trump again threw insults at Swift, writing, \u201cHas anyone noticed that, since I said \u2018I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,\u2019 she\u2019s no longer \u2018HOT?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his previous comments, and perhaps as a reaction to his low approval rating<\/a>, Trump has decided to, as CNN\u2019s Brianna Keilar<\/strong> commented on Tuesday, \u201ctake the high road\u201d and send nothing but well wishes to the happy couple.<\/p>\n
