The Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> have lost one of their wide receivers for 2025, with Johnny Wilson set to undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and ankle.<\/p>\n

The Super Bowl<\/a> champions have felt their share of the injury bug this offseason, previously losing superstar guard Landon Dickerson<\/a> to a long-term injury, and they\u2019re hoping there will be no more following the newest development.<\/p>\n

According to the Inquirer\u2019s Jeff McLane, Wilson will have operations on the aforementioned joints after getting hurt during training on Tuesday. He\u2019s said to have hobbled off the field with the help of a trainer after getting rolled up on and was later carted inside.<\/p>\n

Johnny Wilson was having a solid camp and was essentially locked in as the #Eagles<\/a>\u2019 No. 4 (blocking) WR, much as he was last season as a rookie.<\/p>\n

The Eagles acquired John Metchie III in a trade two days prior, which should help offset the Wilson loss.<\/p>\n

The injury comes at a bad time for Wilson, who had been impressive this summer after struggling early in camp. The sophomore wideout had a good game in the Eagles\u2019 first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> and was expected to be part of the rotation in the coming season.<\/p>\n

His absence will leave the defending champs with six wide receivers, all considered shoo-ins for the final 53-man roster, including A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith<\/a>, and Jahan Dotson, the top three options. They also have undrafted rookie Darius Cooper, Ainias Smith, and John Metchie III, recently acquired via trade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Metchie\u2019s arrival ahead of Wilson\u2019s injury now looks like a genius move on Howie Roseman\u2019s part, while it\u2019s been suggested that the widely-praised GM isn\u2019t quite done yet. The team is already deep at WR, but Metchie will now be able to fill in as WR4, where Wilson would have been getting his snaps.<\/p>\n

Cooper, who caught six passes for 82 yards in that preseason win over the Bengals, is also likely to see time on the field in 2025 after emerging as a talent to watch out for this offseason.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
