A bullet penetrated the office of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid<\/strong><\/a> last year while he was working inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

The incident happened at the Chiefs practice facility in May 2024, according to the Kansas City Star<\/i><\/a>. Reid, 67, was working alone inside his office when a bullet was fired from the outside of the building and broke through the glass.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bullet lodged in a wall between his bathroom and the entry door to Reid\u2019s office, roughly 15 feet from where the head coach was sitting at his desk. Reid was not struck or injured by the bullet, according to a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two other bullets struck the Chiefs\u2019 facility on the same day, with one hitting the floor above Reid\u2019s office and another hitting an outdoor air conditioning unit.<\/span><\/p>\n

No arrests have been made in connection with the shootings. An investigation remains ongoing, including from where exactly the shots were fired.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization,\u201d Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina<\/strong> told the Star<\/i>. \u201cBecause the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Reid\u2019s office now has reinforced bulletproof glass, which was installed shortly after the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kansas City Chiefs organization reportedly kept the shooting under wraps, with \u201cmany Chiefs players and staff\u201d unaware it ever happened until the Star broke the news on Wednesday, August 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gunfire was heard shortly after midnight on May 4, 2024, according to an incident report.<\/span><\/p>\n

Becchina said overnight security told police officers that someone heard \u201ca noise and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a window.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The shooting happened roughly three months after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the six-part ESPN docuseries The Kingdom<\/i><\/a>, available to stream now on ESPN+, Reid detailed his long, intense work days which often begin with him leaving home around 5 a.m. and getting to the Chiefs\u2019 facilities before anybody else is around.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, explained how Reid\u2019s work ethic also extends into the offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe loves football so much,\u201d Mahomes told ESPN<\/a> last year. \u201cEven in the offseason, he\u2019ll text me, ask me questions, do I like this play or do I like that play? He loves being around the game and being able to enjoy it. We\u2019re having so much fun. It\u2019s not so much the winning. We legit have so much fun at the building that I think it would be hard for him to walk away.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chiefs open the 2025 regular season in Brazil on September 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
