Yet for thousands of shoppers across the country, a popular instant coffee sold at one of America’s largest retail chains has become the focus of a sweeping safety recall \u2014 prompted by a hidden hazard that could turn an ordinary sip into a medical emergency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is managing a voluntary recall of Clover Valley\u00ae instant coffee sold at Dollar General stores in 48 states, urging customers to stop using the product and return it for a refund. The recall began after a shopper reported a potential problem \u2014 the presence of glass fragments \u2014 in certain packages of the product to store staff. Consuming glass fragments poses serious hazards<\/a>, including tooth damage, cuts to the mouth and throat, and possible injury to the intestines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So far, there have been no confirmed cases of illness or injury connected to the affected coffee. The FDA advises consumers to avoid drinking any coffee that meets the recall criteria and to seek medical care if they believe they may have swallowed glass fragments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      The recall<\/a> began on March 13, 2025, after it was discovered that certain batches were incorrectly labeled as decaffeinated, creating a risk that consumers might unknowingly drink caffeinated coffee.
