Travis Kelce has opened up for the first time on the impact of the split between his parents, Donna and Ed, and revealed how it shapes his hopes for the future with Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n

The NFL star\u2019s parents broke up when Travis and his older brother Jason were at college in Cincinnati and they have openly admitted staying together longer than they wanted in order to be the best parents possible.<\/p>\n

Now, in an emotional new interview with GQ, Kelce recalls sensing his parents had drifted before what he thinks was their 20th wedding anniversary. And in moving comments, he also underlined how much he wants to avoid that ever happening with Swift.<\/p>\n

\u2018I don\u2019t want to get this wrong, it had to be around 20 (20th wedding anniversary),\u2019 Kelce said, explaining that his parents\u2019 anniversary date had been marked down on a calender in the Kelce family kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u2018I remember seeing it and I was like, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s their anniversary. I wonder what they\u2019re going to do.\u2019 And it was kind of just another day almost. Another day of knocking out things for the kids.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m sure my father probably did something, he\u2019s always been very good at making sure we celebrate our mother when it\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day and all that. He still to this day will text, like, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s your mom\u2019s birthday coming up. Don\u2019t forget about it\u2019. But I never saw the romance of it all.\u2019<\/p>\n

As the three-time Super Bowl winner looks to the future with Swift, he said how he wants to make sure that drift never happens to their relationship.<\/p>\n

\u2018A lot of friends I grew up with shared that (seeing their parents happy). The handful of my friends whose parents are still together and still thriving \u2013 those are situations I would love to have. Not that I think my parents dealt with it the wrong way or anything like that.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s more so, if we\u2019re gonna start this and do it, why not try and do it to last forever? Not just in a \u2018It\u2019s just for the kids\u2019 aspect.\u2019<\/p>\n

Kelce also drew comparisons between Swift and his mother, at one stage getting emotional on how he admires the two women.<\/p>\n

\u2018Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room,\u2019 Kelce said. \u2018Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.\u2019<\/p>\n

Kelce\u2019s admission comes in the wake of his father Ed losing the girlfriend he met after his split wtih Donna.<\/p>\n

He announced the passing of Maureen Maguire on Facebook a little over a week ago, with her funeral held in Pennsylvania last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ed and Donna have been open about how their relationship drifted while raising Travis and Jason. Donna once explained: \u2018I don\u2019t hate him. We\u2019re friends to this day. We get along great.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were like a tag team with you two (Travis and Jason). We got to do all sorts of fun things. When one of you had to go out of town, the other person would help with the other child. It was perfect.\u2019<\/p>\n

In a 2023 documentary about the kelce family, released before Chiefs star Kelce met Swift, Ed added: \u2018If we had split as we probably both would have preferred, that would have been a nightmare with the logistics, getting kids where they had to be and providing all the support.\u2019<\/p>\n

They are often seen together nowadays at NFL games cheering Travis on when he is in action for the Chiefs and have forged a close relationship with Swift over the recent months and years.<\/p>\n

September marks two years since the high-profile couple went public with their relationship, when Swift joined Kelce\u2019s mom Donna in his VIP suite at Arrowhead Stadium to watch Kansas City Cheifs play Chicago Bears.<\/p>\n

The excitement around their relationship was propeled to another level this week with Swift finally making her first appearance on Kelce\u2019s \u2018New Heights\u2019 podcast to announce her new album, \u2018The Life of a Showgirl\u2019.<\/p>\n

A teaser video dropped at 12:12am on August 12 to mark the announcement of the singer\u2019s 12th record, with the full episode being released on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Kelce, meanwhile, is nearing his own curtain-raising event when the Chiefs kick off their 2025 campaign in early September against Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 5.<\/p>\n
