Trump, 79, shared his thoughts on Sweeney\u2019s \u201cGreat Jeans\u201d campaign via Truth Social on Monday, August 4. \u201cSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the \u2018HOTTEST\u2019 ad out there,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s for American Eagle, and the jeans are \u2018flying off the shelves.\u2019 Go get \u2019em Sydney!\u201d

He continued by taking a jab at Taylor Swift, who publicly supported former Vice President Kamala Harris during the presidential election last year.<\/p>\n

Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can\u2019t stand her (HATE!),\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cShe was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned \u2013 Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift, meanwhile, seems to be thriving. Sales of her song \u201cHow Did It End?\u201d reportedly jumped 6,000 percent after it was featured on a recent episode of HBO Max\u2019s And Just Like That, and in April, she snagged the No. 9 spot on Forbes\u2019 list of celebrity billionaires. (She was also not \u201cbooed out\u201d of the Super Bowl. In fact, she stayed until the end, while Trump made his exit early.)

Trump\u2019s message comes days after American Eagle addressed the backlash they faced for their ad on Friday.<\/p>\n

Their statement follows criticism surrounding the ad, in which Sweeney, 27, shows off her denim while playing into the double entendre of the word \u201cgenes.\u201d<\/p>\n

In one clip, the camera zooms in on her cleavage as she says, \u201cMy body\u2019s composition is determined by my genes. Hey, eyes up here.\u201d A narrator\u2019s voice then adds, \u201cSydney Sweeney has great jeans.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another campaign video, she recreates Brooke Shields\u2019 1980s Calvin Klein ad while lying on the floor and pulling up her pants, just as Shields once did. Sweneey shares a message about how \u201cthe secret of life lies in the genetic code,\u201d a nod to Shields\u2019 line, \u201cGenes are fundamental in determining the characteristics of an individual and passing on these characteristics to succeeding generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics of the American Eagle campaign have claimed that the ad evokes eugenics, a discredited belief system that aims to improve genetics and is associated with white supremacy.
