New England Patriots fans are freaking out following an apparent injury sustained by one of their favorites during training camp.<\/p>\n

Standout cornerback Christian Gonzalez limped off the field on Monday during an early 11 vs. 11 drill after covering Stefon Diggs.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez was running with the wide receiver on a crossing route when he got hurt. He was able to walk to the training shed on his own, but there are worries he could be out for some time.<\/p>\n

The second-year CB missed most of his rookie season with a shoulder injury but entered training camp as a Top 10 NFL cornerback, per ESPN\u2019s rankings.<\/p>\n

The team is looking to him to help carry their overhauled secondary along with Carlton Davis III, who joined as a free agent. Expectations for the duo are high, but this could prove a troubling setback.

Christian Gonzalez had been excellent in camp before the mishap, locking receivers down and showing no signs of rust following his injury.<\/p>\n

New head coach Mie Vrabel was especially pleased with his coverage on rookie Kyle Williams and veteran Kendrick Bourne.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing at the moment on the severity of the injury, but there\u2019s some belief that it\u2019s minor. In any case, the Patriots will likely be cautious due to his injury history.<\/p>\n

Fans will hope Gonzalez\u2019s exit was more precautionary than anything else and that the momentum he\u2019s picked up this offseason won\u2019t be for naught.\u00a0It will be interesting to see whether he features in preseason.<\/p>\n
