On Thursday,\u00a0People\u00a0confirmed that the\u00a0celebrity chef tragically died by suicide.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0New York City<\/span>\u00a0medical examiner\u2019s office, her cause of death was listed as \u2018acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.\u2019<\/p>\n

Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are both antihistamines, ethanol is a type of\u00a0alcohol<\/span>, and amphetamine is a stimulant often prescribed for\u00a0ADHD<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Burrell\u2019s family declined the publication\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Last month, Burrell, who hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and co-hosted Worst Cooks in America,\u00a0was found dead inside her Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Food Network star was found\u00a0\u2018in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills\u2019, according to NYPD\u00a0documents seen by\u00a0The New York Times.<\/p>\n

Emergency medical teams responded to the home that she shared with her husband Stuart Claxton but she was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

On June 20, a spokeswoman for the city\u2019s medical examiner\u2019s office confirmed that Burrell\u2019s autopsy had been completed but findings on the exact cause of her death was still pending.<\/p>\n

Claxton reportedly\u00a0last saw his wife alive at about 1AM the night\u00a0<\/span>prior before discovering her unconscious between six to seven hours later in their bathroom.<\/p>\n

It was reported earlier this week that EMS crews had attempted CPR on Burrell but could not resuscitate her.<\/p>\n

Her family said in a statement: \u2018Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend \u2014 her smile lit up every room she entered.<\/p>\n

\u2018Anne\u2019s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.\u2019<\/p>\n

A Food Network spokesperson added, \u2018Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent \u2013 teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.<\/p>\n

Just hours before her passing Burrell\u00a0had performed a improv show at a comedy club in Brooklyn<\/span>, after having taken classes at the venue\u2019s training center.<\/p>\n

In a podcast earlier this year she spoke with\u00a0Tori Spelling on taking the classes and how she planned to expand her horizons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I just started taking acting classes. I started yesterday, actually\u2026 It\u2019s like an improv for actors\u2019 class.<\/p>\n

\u2018I got there and it\u2019s like eight people in the class. I\u2019m the oldest one. Every other person has like, \u2018Oh, I have a master\u2019s in fine arts in theater.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burrell showed off her self-awareness and sense of humor that her fans were familiar with as she joked about the age gap between she and her fellow students.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I\u2019m like, \u2018okay, I\u2019ve never taken an acting class. I don\u2019t know, this is new to me.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I wonder if these delightful and super talented kids look at me and they\u2019re like, \u2018What\u2019s this old lady doing here?\u201d<\/p>\n

The television personality had taken a break from her show Worst Cooks In America for season 28 which baffled many fans and Spelling, 52, asked at the time what led her to that decision.<\/p>\n

Burrell answered: \u2018I can cook, yes, I can do TV, but also, what else? I\u2019ve got more to do in my life, I feel like.\u2019<\/p>\n

She also admitted that she was just \u2018dipping my toe\u2019 when it came to the pivot to acting.<\/p>\n

Burrell explained: \u2018I feel very excited about it. I\u2019ve got a few other things that I\u2019m working on as well, which I\u2019m not quite ready to share yet. Hopefully, exciting [are] things coming.\u2019<\/p>\n

Chef Carla Hall, who previously appeared on Food Network\u2019s Top Chef, called Burrell an \u2018incredible cook and teacher.\u2019<\/p>\n

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Carson Kressley, who was a close friend of Burrell\u2019s, revealed that he spoke to her just days before her death.<\/p>\n

He also shared a post to his own Instagram page which included a photo of him and Burrell.<\/p>\n

The TV chef \u2013 who became synonymous with her trademark spiky platinum hair \u2013 is survived by husband, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed ceremony and reception in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York.<\/p>\n

She is also survived by her mother Marlene and sister Jane and her children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas, and her brother Ben.<\/p>\n

Burrell developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by her mother\u2019s home-cooked meals and by watching food icon Julia Child on television.<\/p>\n

After earning a degree in English and Communications from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1991, she followed her culinary dreams and enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996.<\/p>\n

She worked at a whole host of New York City hotspots including Felidia and Savoy in Soho, where she honed her craft in Mediterranean cuisine.<\/p>\n

She was later thrust into the spotlight and became best known as the longtime host of Worst Cooks in America.<\/p>\n

The show, which ran for 28 seasons, saw celebrated chefs mentor amateur cooks in an attempt to transform them from rookies to kitchen experts.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, she appeared on Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently, competition series House of Knives \u2013 which premiered in March this year.<\/p>\n
