WASHINGTON \u2014 Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday that she was unaware of whether the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was an intelligence asset \u2014 while downplaying a missing minute of prison surveillance footage from the night of his death in 2019.<\/p>\n

Bondi released the jailhouse footage Monday along with a\u00a0two-page memo\u00a0<\/a>asserting that Epstein kept no \u201cclient list\u201d \u2014 despite her prior remarks indicating she had such a list \u201con my desk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo him being an [intelligence] agent, I have no knowledge about that. We can get back to you on that,\u201d the AG said during a cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n

She was responding to former Miami US Attorney Alex Acosta\u00a0allegedly explaining\u00a0<\/a>a 2008 plea deal by saying, \u201cI was told Epstein \u2018belonged to intelligence\u2019 and to leave it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bondi said that the missing minute of tape that showed an area outside Epstein\u2019s cell was down to the use of old equipment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we learned from the Bureau of Prisons was, every year, every night, they redo that video. It\u2019s old, from like 1999, so every night the video is reset, and every night should have the same minute missing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re looking for that video to release that as well, showing that a minute is missing every night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unprompted, Bondi also defended herself against a torrent of criticism for suggesting she was poised to release damning files on Epstein, whose close associates included Prince Andrew, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and former President Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn February, I did an interview on Fox, and it\u2019s been getting a lot of attention because I said \u2014 I was asked a question about the client list, and my response was, \u2018it\u2019s sitting on my desk to be reviewed,\u2019 meaning the [Epstein] file along with the JFK [and] MLK files as well,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I meant by that. Also to the tens of thousands of videos, they turned out to be child porn downloaded by that disgusting Jeffrey Epstein \u2014 child porn is what they were,\u201d added Bondi, who promised that those are \u201cnever going to be released.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Do you want to waste the time?\u2019<\/h2>\n

President Trump interjected to offer to allow Bondi to side-step the topic entirely asking:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAre you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy\u2019s been talked about for years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, 79, is a former acquaintance of Epstein and his alleged co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell but the men had a falling out years before Epstein\u2019s final public disgrace.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable. Do you want to waste the time?\u201d Trump asked the AG.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I can\u2019t believe you\u2019re asking a question on Epstein at a time like this, where we\u2019re having some of the greatest success and also tragedy, with what happened in Texas. It just seems like a desecration.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president previously turned heads in 2020 when asked to comment on Maxwell\u2019s arrest to face charges for aiding Epstein.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t really been following it too much. I just wish her well, frankly,\u201d\u00a0Trump said at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach, but I wish her well.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later explained the well-wishes by saying he was thinking about Epstein\u2019s death in prison.<\/p>\n

Bondi\u2019s Monday memo sought to slam the door on fevered speculation about a cover-up in the case \u2014 saying her department had completed a \u201csystematic review\u201d of evidence and concluded the 66-year-old died by suicide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis systematic review revealed no incriminating \u2018client list.\u2019 There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions,\u201d the memo reads. \u201cWe did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
