President Donald Trump has announced he’s holding a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House next year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking to crowds in\u00a0Iowa<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday (July 3),\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0said next year’s 250th anniversary of American independence would see a range of exciting events held across the country, including a ‘championship fight’ in front of 25,000 people within the grounds of\u00a0the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the organisation of the event, Trump explained that\u00a0UFC<\/a>\u00a0president Dana White would be leading the plans.<\/p>\n

“We are going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight – think of this – on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there.<\/p>\n

“We’re gonna have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20-25,000 people.”<\/p>\n

Speaking of other events, he added: “Every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honour of America250.”<\/p>\n

Following Trump’s announcement, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said: “It’s going to be EPIC!”<\/p>\n

While some people seemed ecstatic over the prospect of a UFC fight at the president’s home, others struggled to believe the plans at all.<\/p>\n

One wrote: “Trump just announced a UFC fight on the White House lawn with 25,000 people attending.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re rapidly becoming the laughingstock of the world.”<\/p>\n

While another said: “Oh please tell me I heard that one wrong.”<\/p>\n

And a third added: “This can’t be true. Please tell me this is parody.”<\/p>\n

Others didn’t see an issue with the plans, with many believing it to be a ‘bold’ idea.<\/p>\n

“Bringing sports to historic spaces is bold. It may spark pride or debate, but it sure captures attention,” one wrote.<\/p>\n

And another added: “UFC is a massively popular sport. Why not host a massively popular sport at The White House?”<\/p>\n

One fighter who has registered an interest in competing in a White House-hosted fight is Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, who tweeted: “Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in!”<\/p>\n

He added: “July 4th next year is a Saturday, regarding President Trumps UFC White House event. I will be reigning President of Ireland just under 1 year when I step out on the lawns of the White House to throw down. Epic proportions! Or as I like to call it, Tuesday at the office.
