24 hours ahead of schedule, Donald Trump’s controversial ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Act was passed by US Congress.<\/p>\n

The commander-in-chief, 79, had given senators a strict deadline of 4 July to abide by, so that the 940-page document could be signed into law before Independence Day celebrations got underway.<\/p>\n

He wasn’t joking, either, as he publicly told lawmakers that ‘no one goes on vacation<\/a> until it’s done’, adding: “Lock yourself in a room if you must.”<\/p>\n

Thankfully though, members of Congress<\/a> didn’t have to confine themselves to barracks to get the job done, as Republicans pushed the bill – centred around tax and spending cuts – through on Thursday (3 July).<\/p>\n

After a vote of 218 to 214, which saw three Republicans join forces with Democrat senators to boycott the bill, the House of Representatives passed the final version of it yesterday.<\/p>\n

“The big, not so beautiful, bill has passed,\u201d GOP Kentucky senator Rand Paul said afterwards.<\/p>\n

We already know that Elon Musk<\/a> isn’t a huge fan of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, given that he instead dubbed it the ‘Big Ugly Spending Bill’<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tesla<\/a> tycoon, 54, claimed it ‘undermined’ all his hard work<\/a> while he headed up the Department of Government Efficiency, while alleging the legislation add ‘trillions of dollars to the national deficit’.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, President Trump<\/a> told reporters on Thursday that the bill would ‘turn this country into a rocket ship’, as he celebrated it being green lit by Congress.<\/p>\n

“This is going to be a great bill for the country,” he said of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, which he is expected to sign into law at a ceremony later today.<\/p>\n

So, what does this mean for Americans<\/a>? Frankly, the answer to that depends largely on who you ask.<\/p>\n

In the eyes of Trump, the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Act is ‘a declaration of independence from a national decline’.<\/p>\n

“With this bill, every major promise I made to the people in 2024 became a promise kept,” he told crowds at a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

“We really have independence now over the the overtaxation, where we were being taxed out of our lives, independence from over-regulation, we have independence now from radical-left bureaucrats and independence from the largest alien invasion.”<\/p>\n

Promising it will usher the US into a new era, the President said it ‘includes the largest tax cut in American history, the largest spending cut in American history and the largest border security investment in American history<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n

“Very simply, the one big beautiful bill would deliver the strongest border on Earth<\/a>, the strongest economy on Earth, the strongest military<\/a> on Earth, and ensure the United States of America will remain the strongest country anywhere on this beautiful planet,” Trump said.<\/p>\n

“This is going to blow the first term away. And we did great. We got great marks in the first term, and this is going to blow it away. This incredible national resurgence is happening just in time for the big events in the history of our country.”<\/p>\n

He’s made sure there is $25 billion set aside in the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ for his Golden Dome missile defence program<\/a>, as well as another $12.5 billion to go towards overhauling the US’ air-traffic control system<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another $100 billion is set to be spent on border security and immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n

The bill also includes $4.5 trillion dollars in tax cuts, according to the latest analysis, making permanent Mr Trump\u2019s 2017 rates, which would expire at the end of the year if Congress failed to act, while adding the new ones he campaigned on, such as no taxes on tips.<\/p>\n

The package would roll back billions of dollars in green energy tax credits, which Democrats warn will wipe out wind and solar investments nationwide.<\/p>\n

There’s also the $1.2 trillion dollars in cuts – which largely applies to Medicaid and food stamps.<\/p>\n

Despite concerns from critics about the human impact the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ could have, Trump has got his way and is expected to sign it into law later today.<\/p>\n

Democrat and former house speaker Nancy Pelosi dubbed the bill a ‘dangerous checklist of extreme Republican priorities’, while ominously adding: “Today ushers in a dark and harrowing time.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
