Former NFL<\/a> wide receiver Chandler Jones<\/a>, a professional football coach, has sadly passed away.<\/p>\n

Jones is reported to have died in a car accident a week ago after being struck by a driver in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

He was only 33.<\/p>\n

The former WR was a standout at San Jose State, where he was known as \u201cThe Jet\u201d for his blistering pace. He was a coach and player for the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL at the time of his death.<\/p>\n

According to California Highway Patrol officials, per FOX Sports<\/a>, Jones was struck by the driver of a Toyota RAV4 on the eastbound lanes of the 90 freeway around 2:00 a.m. last Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of former assistant defensive backs coach Chandler Jones. He was a passionate and dedicated coach whose professionalism and commitment left a lasting impression on the organization,\u201d the Alouettes said in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

San Jose State published a statement of its own.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with great sadness that we share the passing of alum, Chandler Jones \u201809. Jones was a standout player on Bishop\u2019s football team and still holds the record for longest kick-off return (97 yards) and longest fumble recovery (98 yards),\u201d <\/em>they said.<\/p>\n

Chandler Jones had a brief stint in the NFL, spending time on practice squads for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts<\/a>, and Cleveland Browns<\/a>. He joined the Alouettes in 2016 and eventually landed a job as an assistant defensive backs coach on their coaching staff.<\/p>\n

He also worked as an assistant coach at San Jose State and was on the staff at the College of Idaho at one point.<\/p>\n

He leaves as a beloved figure in the football community, having built a reputation as a leader and mentor who was passionate about the game.<\/p>\n
