The\u00a0Saturday Night Live\u00a0<\/em>star who received backlash for her depiction of Aimee Lou Wood in a sketch has spoken out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last month\u00a0SNL<\/em><\/a>\u00a0was at the center of controversy after Sarah Sherman mocked\u00a0The White Lotus<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>star’s teeth.<\/p>\n

Wood later hit out at the show for the skit and branded it\u00a0‘mean and unfunny’<\/a>. Sherman proceeded to send Wood a bouquet of flowers as an apology, which the\u00a0Sex Education<\/em><\/a>\u00a0actress shared a snap of to her\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0Story.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for the beautiful flowers @sarahsquirm,” she wrote while tagging Sherman’s page, so it seemed that the stars had made peace.<\/p>\n

Wood was even asked about the\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0skit and the events that unfolded afterwards once more at her\u00a0Met Gala<\/a>\u00a0debut earlier this month.<\/p>\n

“It all got very out of control,” she shared. “My whole thinking was I could either say something because I saw it and people were angry about it\u2026 and have it be said, and I won\u2019t spiral inwardly, and feel terrible about myself.”<\/p>\n

Sherman herself hadn’t actually publicly addressed the matter until now, however.<\/p>\n

Sherman said she never meant to upset anyone with her comedy (Taylor Hill\/FilmMagic)<\/cite><\/div>\n

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Sherman\u00a0said<\/a>: “I was excited to play her because she\u2019s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f**king obviously never meant to hurt anyone\u2019s feelings.”<\/p>\n

She added: “Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”<\/p>\n

The interviewer proceeded to ask Sherman if in the wake of her\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0evolution over the years and her portraying more real-life people on the show that she has to be more aware of people’s feelings than before.<\/p>\n

“Totally,” Sherman replied. “The show is in constant dialogue with culture as it\u2019s happening, and it happens really fast. You have to be vigilant, you know what I mean? There are a lot of things out of your control.”<\/p>\n

She continued: “You\u2019re playing a lot of different parts, you\u2019re doing a lot of different roles that you\u2019re not in control of.<\/p>\n

“A lot of the process of the show has been, to me – how am I answering this? Staying vigilant but also being a part of the show – that is your job.”<\/p>\n

Wood also\u00a0addressed the photos<\/a>\u00a0that had been shared online of her seen crying while out with a friend in London, which many people presumed had to do with the\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0incident.<\/p>\n

“I wasn\u2019t crying about the\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0skit,” the 31-year-old insisted. “I was crying about something completely unrelated, but it all got quite out of control.”<\/p>\n
