Elliot Page has opened up about his transition journey, making a sad admission about what it’s like being transgender.<\/p>\n

The Canadian\u00a0actor<\/a>\u00a0– who has starred in the like of\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u00a0sci-fi hit\u00a0The Umbrella Academy\u00a0<\/em>and blockbuster\u00a0X-Men: The Last Stand\u00a0<\/em>– came out as\u00a0transgender<\/a>\u00a0in 2020, revealing that he’d kept his true identity hidden for as long as he could remember.<\/p>\n

He wrote on\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0at the time: “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he\/they and my name is Elliot.<\/p>\n

“I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”<\/p>\n

Page added: “To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”<\/p>\n

Prior to the release of his 2023 memoir\u00a0Pageboy,\u00a0<\/em>the now 38-year-old spoke\u00a0to<\/a>\u00a0PEOPLE about his relationship with his gender identity and made a rather poignant remark about the trans experience.<\/p>\n

“My experience as a trans person and this life I have, and the privilege I have does not represent the reality of most trans lives,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also went on to talk about the importance of trans representation saying: “I think it\u2019s crucial, I think we need to feel represented and see ourselves, you know, that\u2019s not something I had like as a kid.<\/p>\n

“The reality is, trans people disproportionately are unemployed, disproportionately experience homelessness. Trans women of colour are being murdered. People are losing their healthcare or couldn\u2019t access.”<\/p>\n

And, while he admits to facing a number of challenges since coming out as transgender, Page said he’s ‘grateful’ for where he is in life.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019s obviously been very difficult moments. I do feel like I kind of barely made it in many ways,” he said. “But today, I\u2019m just me and grateful to be here and alive and taking one step at a time.”<\/p>\n

He also shared a powerful message about gratitude on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0after undergoing gender-affirming surgery.<\/p>\n

“Dysphoria used to be especially rife in the summer. No layers, just a T-shirt \u2013 or layers and oh so sweaty \u2013 constantly looking down, readjusting my oversized T,” Page wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n

“It feels so f***ing good soaking in the sun now, I never thought I could experience this, the joy I feel in my body. I am so grateful for what gender-affirming care has allowed me and I look forward to sharing more of my journey soon.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
