President Donald Trump has made a shocking claim about the influencer he picked to be Surgeon General just days after calling her \u2018one of the finest\u2019.<\/p>\n

Last Wednesday (May 7),\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0made the surprise announcement that a new nominee for the position of US Surgeon General would be\u00a0health<\/a>\u00a0entrepreneur and wellness influencer Casey Means.<\/p>\n

This came as a shock to the public after it was revealed that Means is not actually a practising physician.<\/p>\n

At the time, the president said that Means has an \u2018absolutely outstanding\u2019 record and that she has the \u2018potential to be one of the finest Surgeon Generals in United States History\u2019.<\/p>\n

However, just one day later, Trump made very different claims, stating that he\u00a0doesn\u2019t actually know who Means is<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The president was questioned by a reporter who asked: \u201cYou just announced a new nominee for the\u00a0US Surgeon General<\/a>\u00a0who never finished her residency, and is not a practicing physician. So can you explain why you picked her to be America\u2019s top doctor?\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Trump said: \u201cBecause Bobby thought she was fantastic, she\u2019s a brilliant woman who went through Stanford and, as I understand it, she wanted to be an academic as opposed to a surgeon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she graduated first in her class at Stanford and Bobby really thought she was great, I don’t know her, I listened to the recommendation of Bobby.<\/p>\n

\u201cI met her yesterday and once before, she\u2019s a very outstanding person and a great academic actually, so I think she\u2019ll be great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bobby is a nickname for Robert F Kennedy Jr who is the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n

This has sparked concern from the public with many taking to\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0to share their own reactions to Trump\u2019s reasoning behind the new appointment, with many sharing a similar sentiment of shock that the president admitted he \u2018doesn\u2019t know\u2019 the person he is backing for the role.<\/p>\n

On X, formerly\u00a0Twitter<\/a>, one user wrote: \u201cSo, reads books and passes tests great, but no actual field experience or exposure to the choas of surgery and just dealing with patients. But Bobby likes her, so it’s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cHe says she graduated first in her class at Stanford. Her website says she received a Stanford BA with honors and an MD from Stanford Med School. If she was first in her class at either level, wouldn’t she say that? Or was this another \u2018useful hyperbole\u2019 thing?\u201d<\/p>\n
