Carrie Underwood<\/a><\/span>\u00a0took a trip down memory lane this week as she looked back on one of her 2005\u00a0American Idol<\/a><\/span>\u00a0performances.<\/p>\n

20 years later, the 42-year-old singer is sharing her reaction to former Idol judge\u00a0Simon Cowell<\/a><\/span>‘s critique of her rendition of\u00a0Bless The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts.<\/p>\n

At the time, Simon described Carrie’s delivery as ‘robotic,’ although he noted that she sang the song ‘beautifully’ and that it was ‘very good.’<\/p>\n

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Grammy-winning music artist said about the British record executive’s analysis: ‘He wasn’t wrong.’<\/p>\n

‘I will say he wasn’t wrong. I feel like in these moments \u2014 I mean, it was top five \u2014 I don’t know if it’s the time to go out on a limb and do anything crazy,’ she defended.<\/p>\n

The blonde beauty explained further, ‘So like, picking something that you’re comfortable with, but then trying to work with the staging.<\/p>\n

‘But then also \u2014 I consider myself a vocalist, like I want to sing things well. And if I ever try to think too much about what I’m doing on stage, I feel like my vocals suffer.’<\/p>\n

‘So [Simon] was not wrong,’ she reiterated before playfully showing off robot dance moves.<\/p>\n

In a caption shared with her 13.3 million followers, she joked, ‘Robotic then…but how \u2018bout these robot moves?!’<\/p>\n

Carrie also said about the Rascal Flatts tune: ‘I love singing \u201cBless The Broken Road.\u201d Grateful for every broken road that led me here!’<\/p>\n

She went on to win the singing competition’s fourth season that year, which launched her two-decades-long music career.<\/p>\n

Underwood has been an American Idol judge since earlier this year when she\u00a0filled the spot previously held by Katy Perry<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Season 23 of the long-running series premiered in March, and fans were overjoyed to see the Oklahoma native’s return.<\/p>\n

The two-hour premiere episode saw auditions take place in Nashville, Tennessee as well as Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Taking to X following the show, one fan wrote, ‘Carrie, you are a natural at this. You did such a great job. Hope you\u2019re here for at least a few seasons. @AmericanIdol #AmericanIdol There are so many great contestants this year!!! #CUonIDOL.’<\/p>\n

Someone else added, ‘Watching @carrieunderwood as a judge on @AmericanIdol is so special for me\u2026 thank you for 20 years of comfort, Carrie.’<\/p>\n
