Pope Leo XIV<\/a>\u2019s brother is sharing an insight into how the newly-elected pontiff prepared for the\u00a0papal conclave<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with\u00a0NBC News<\/a>, John Prevost opened up about his last conversation with his brother, Cardinal Robert Prevost, before he was elected as the\u00a0267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday, May 8.<\/p>\n

Speaking about how the new pope, 69, prepped ahead of the voting sessions in the Sistine Chapel, John revealed that his brother watched the Oscar-winning movie,\u00a0Conclave<\/em>, and played a popular online game.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cFirst we do Wordle \u2018cause this is a regular thing, then we do Words with Friends,\u201d John said of the games they played. \u201cIt\u2019s something to keep his mind off life in the real world.”<\/p>\n

He added, “And then we talk about what\u2019s going on and I said, \u2018Well, do you have your red socks?\u2019 That doesn’t go over well all the time. And then just that kind of stuff.”<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I said, \u2018Well are you ready for this?\u2019 I said, \u2018Did you watch the movie\u00a0Conclave<\/em>\u00a0so you know how to behave?\u201d the proud sibling recalled of their conversation. \u201cAnd he had just finished watching the movie\u00a0Conclave<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

John added, \u201cSo he knew how to behave. So it\u2019s that kind of stuff because I wanted to take his mind off of it. You know, laugh about something because this is now an awesome responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starring\u00a0Ralph Fiennes<\/a>,\u00a0Stanley Tucci<\/a>, Isabella Rossellini and John Lithgow, 2024’s\u00a0Conclave<\/em>\u00a0tells a fictional version of the real-life process of\u00a0deciding on a new pope<\/a>. Fiennes plays Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes), dean of the College of Cardinals, who organizes the eligible cardinals to vote for the next pope in the Sistine Chapel.<\/p>\n

According to the movie’s synopsis, \u201che soon uncovers a trail of deep secrets that could shake the very foundation of the Roman Catholic Church.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the real conclave, which began on May 7, took place over two days, with the pope making history in becoming the first American to take on the role.<\/p>\n

Delivering his first address as pope just before 7:30 p.m. local time, Pope Leo spoke in Italian and Spanish to people in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. He also\u00a0paid tribute<\/a>\u00a0to his predecessor, the late\u00a0Pope Francis<\/a>, who died on April 21.<\/p>\n

The conclave features multiple rounds of voting by College of Cardinals members under the age of 80.<\/p>\n
