Donald Trump has sparked an online frenzy after teasing an announcement which he promises will be ‘earth-shattering’ – although he can’t let us in on it just yet.<\/p>\n

Americans imaginations are running wild after the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0President made the cryptic revelation on Tuesday (6 May), while the only hint he gave to reporters is that ‘it’s not about\u00a0trade<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n

So, considering\u00a0tariffs<\/a>\u00a0are off the table, people have been pondering what the subject of the upcoming announcement may be… and there’s been some bonkers\u00a0theories<\/a>\u00a0circulating so far.<\/p>\n

Trump<\/a>\u00a0has promised that he will fill the world in on his latest venture before he heads off to the\u00a0Middle East<\/a>\u00a0on Monday (12 May), as he’s set to visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.<\/p>\n

While welcoming Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, at the White House yesterday, Trump insisted the big news he plans to share was ‘positive.’<\/p>\n

Trump told reporters: “We have a very big announcement to make. It’s not about trade, it’s about something else.<\/p>\n

“But it’s going to be a truly earth-shattering and positive development for this country and for the people of this country.<\/p>\n

“And that will take place at some time within the next few days.”<\/p>\n

The President had also teased the highly-anticipated announcement – which he said is about a ‘very important subject’ – while he sat down with Carney in the\u00a0Oval Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re going to have a very, very big announcement to make, like as big as it gets,” Trump said. “And I won\u2019t tell you on what…and it\u2019s very positive. I’d tell you if it was negative or positive, I can’t keep that.<\/p>\n

“It is really, really positive,” the President said. “That announcement will be made either Thursday, Friday or Monday before we leave.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019ll be one of the most important announcements that have been made in many years about a certain subject, a very important subject. So you\u2019ll all be here.”<\/p>\n

As I’m sure you can imagine, speculation is rife on\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0about what on earth Trump might be alluding to, especially as he’s got his fingers in such a wide array of pies.<\/p>\n

His announcement about making an announcement – which has been dubbed ‘asinine’ by one online user – has triggered a huge guessing game, as people are desperately trying to work out what he could be talking about.<\/p>\n

One person suggested: “Could be a VP pick. Could be legal drama. Could be merch. Whatever it is, it\u2019s vintage Trump: maximum suspense, zero substance (until the cameras are rolling).”<\/p>\n

Another said: “My guess for the big Trump announcement – Canada will become the 51st state of the USA.”<\/p>\n

A third proposed: “Trump says an ‘earth shattering’ announcement is coming and it’s not about trade. So…aliens<\/a>?”<\/p>\n

A fourth added: “Maybe it\u2019s about\u00a0Greenland<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

And a fifth chimed in saying: “What? He’s making himself imperator for life? Is he\u00a0running for an illegal 3rd term<\/a>? Is he resigning? Oh. Wait. I know. He’s going to put\u00a0crypto<\/a>\u00a0as our legal tender.”<\/p>\n

Others said they couldn’t believe the President was being ‘such a tease’, while some said they couldn’t understand why the commander-in-chief was keeping the States in suspense.<\/p>\n

“Trump’s street cred is now on the line,” one\u00a0X<\/a>\u00a0user wrote. “Hopefully it isn’t some BS hyped nothing-burger.”<\/p>\n

“Brah why is Trump leaving me on a cliff hanger like a movie,” another commented, while a third said: “I hate it when people announce that they\u2019re going to announce something. It\u2019s asinine.”<\/p>\n

Some people who admitted they had been left on tenterhooks also said they were nervous to find out what Trump was talking about – as his definition of ‘positive’ news might not be the same as theirs.<\/p>\n

One wrote: “This honestly scares me. What kind of gigantic stupidity are they going to unleash on us?<\/p>\n
