Donald Trump is renaming Veterans Day in the US, after suggesting that the US fought more ‘than any other country by far’ in order to win World War II.<\/p>\n

We all know by now that\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0makes some pretty bold claims.<\/p>\n

But for his latest hot take, he announced that he wants to rename Veterans Day, normally celebrated on 11 November.<\/p>\n

Not only this, but the president has noted that\u00a0Americans<\/a>\u00a0will now celebrate 8 May, which is not a holiday currently.<\/p>\n

Posting to his\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0platform Truth Social, he said: “We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s because we don\u2019t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so!”<\/p>\n

Veterans Day is traditionally in commemoration of the end of World War I, but even then, in 1918, it was not put forward as a celebration of US victory.<\/p>\n

US citizens usually use Veterans Day as an opportunity to pay their respects to veterans who have fought in all US wars.<\/p>\n

In terms of what Trump has in mind for renaming the day, and creating another, it’s pretty simple.<\/p>\n

Instead of Veterans Day, he would like 11 November to be known as Victory Day for World War I.<\/p>\n

And as for 8 May, he wants to call it Victory Day for World War II.<\/p>\n

He added: “Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II.<\/p>\n

“I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War I| and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I.”<\/p>\n

The president also claimed that America ‘won both wars’, and that they must ‘start celebrating victories’.<\/p>\n

A lot of users online opposed to the decision to rename Veterans Day, as one on X said: “Are we really saying that those who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and other conflicts are no longer considered veterans, and no longer worthy of honour and recognition for their sacrifice?”<\/p>\n

Another noted: “Isn\u2019t it supposed to recognise all that serve rather than a victory?”<\/p>\n

“So now we aren\u2019t ever going to celebrate veterans? Odd choice,” a third added.<\/p>\n
