The Pittsburgh Pirates fan\u00a0who fell over the top of a 21-foot outfield wall<\/a>\u00a0at PNC Park has been identified as a former standout football player, as he remains in critical condition after Wednesday\u2019s incident.<\/p>\n

The man has been identified as Kavan Markwood, according to reports from Pittsburgh newspaper\u00a0TribLive<\/a>,\u00a0ESPN<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0The Athletic<\/a>, on Thursday, May 1.<\/p>\n

Markwood was a 2022 South Allegheny High School graduate and was named the football team\u2019s MVP in his senior year, according to The Athletic. He went on to play college football at Walsh University and Wheeling University, TribLive reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone at South Alle\u00adgheny would say he is a hardworking, highly resilient young man. He\u2019s a fighter. He\u2019s going to need that resiliency now. But he has it,\u201d South Allegheny School District spokeswoman Laura Thomson told TribLive. \u201cHe\u2019s touched a lot of lives at South Allegheny. We\u2019re a small community. He\u2019s a household name here. Everyone knows him. He has the prayers and the support of the South Alle\u00adgheny community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Markwood\u2019s football coach Frank Cortazzo said the former linebacker is \u201cnot only an outstanding athlete but an even more exceptional young man.\u201d<\/p>\n
