National security adviser\u00a0Mike Waltz<\/a>\u00a0is expected to be ousted from his White House role, marking the first major departure in\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>‘s inner circle this term, according to several reports.<\/p>\n On Thursday, May 1, multiple outlets including\u00a0Politico<\/a>,\u00a0The New York Times<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0CBS News<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>reported that Waltz’s time in the administration will soon come to an end just months after he abandoned his congressional career to join the White House team.<\/p>\n Waltz’s hawkish views on foreign policy have reportedly been too traditional to fit in with the MAGA crew, and the adviser was already on thin ice with the president after making headlines in March for an embarrassing group chat mishap.<\/p>\n Alex Wong, the principal deputy to Waltz, is reportedly also on the chopping block.<\/p>\n The anticipated ousters come more than a month after the fallout from a shocking group chat scandal, in which\u00a0The Atlantic<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally added to a Signal messaging group of top Trump advisers and saw them discussing plans to bomb Houthi rebels in Yemen.<\/p>\n Screenshots published by\u00a0The Atlantic<\/em><\/a>\u00a0show that \u2014 in addition to mocking the United States’ European allies and discussing the rationale of the bombings \u2014 Defense Secretary\u00a0Pete Hegseth<\/a>\u00a0shared a \u201cTEAM UPDATE\u201d with the chat, which included time-stamped details and locations about the planned attacks before they happened.<\/p>\n “There is a clear public interest in disclosing the sort of information that Trump advisers included in nonsecure communications channels,” justified\u00a0The Atlantic<\/em>, “especially because senior administration figures are attempting to downplay the significance of the messages that were shared.”<\/p>\n Perhaps just as damning for Waltz was one of the first screenshots from the chat, which showed that he was the one to add Goldberg to the group.<\/p>\n The former Florida congressman and Army Special Forces veteran did previously take responsibility for Goldberg\u2019s inclusion to the chat, but claimed in a Fox News interview with\u00a0Laura Ingraham<\/a>\u00a0that it was a case of mistaken identity.<\/p>\n \u201cHave you ever had somebody\u2019s contact that shows their name and then you have somebody else\u2019s number there?\u201d Waltz asked the host. \u201cYou\u2019ve got somebody else\u2019s number on someone else\u2019s contact, so of course I didn\u2019t see this loser in the group. It looked like someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNow, whether he did it deliberately, or it happened in some other technical mean is something we\u2019re trying to figure out,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n Waltz positioned himself as the fall guy for the mistake, however, he continued to insist that he didn’t knowingly add\u00a0The Atlantic\u00a0<\/em>editor.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know this guy,\u201d he said, referring to Goldberg. \u201cI know him by his horrible reputation and he really is the bottom scum of journalists. I know him in the sense that he hates the president.
