US President Donald Trump has responded to the conspiracy theories about Melania Trump having a ‘body double’.<\/p>\n

While the conspiracy has been circulating for years now, it’s recently picked up the pace since\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0was inaugurated as the 47th president in January.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0users, the bizarre theory suggests that\u00a0Melania<\/a>\u00a0has shunned public appearances and a body double actress has been hired to stand in her place.<\/p>\n

Analysing various appearances over the years, one person wrote online: “Has there been another sitting President in the Televisual age that\u2019s been quite so brazen as to use a body double of the\u00a0First Lady<\/a>\u00a0on the campaign trail? I think not. Up their with my favourite conspiracy theories. The evidence is well… compelling. “<\/p>\n

Another claimed: “We know this isn’t Melania because Melania doesn’t smile.”<\/p>\n

Someone else theorised: “Way way too cozy. Melania doesn\u2019t let trump touch her. It was a body double. Dead giveaway also the trench coat and sunglasses.”<\/p>\n

While the conspiracy theorists usually emerge after Melania’s public events, Trump himself has previously commented on the theory, explaining it’s only becoming more extreme as time goes on.<\/p>\n

In 2019, he said in a tweet that photos of his wife had been altered to make it look like she had been replaced by a look-alike when they went to survey tornado damage, stating: \u201cThe Fake News photoshopped pictures of Melania, then propelled conspiracy theories that it\u2019s actually not her by my side in Alabama and other places. They are only getting more deranged with time!\u201d<\/p>\n

It was spoken about on\u00a0The View\u00a0<\/em>where contributor Ana Navarro-Cardenas said: \u201cLet\u2019s have fun with Melania. She\u2019s beautiful, and we\u2019re doing this in jest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abby Huntsman, a Republican asked: \u201cDoes that make it better?\u201d<\/p>\n

To this, co-host Joy Behar, said: \u201cWe\u2019re not here to be better people. We\u2019re here to have a good laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Stephanie Grisham, the first lady\u2019s spokeswoman, explained that the episode \u2018went beyond the petty mean-girl spirit that we\u2019ve grown accustomed to\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople died, people lost family, people are hurting in Alabama,\u201d Grisham said in an email as per AP. \u201cI personally watched the president and first lady hug, listen to and comfort people who had lost everything – and the \u2018ladies\u2019 of\u00a0The View<\/em>\u00a0instead chose to laugh and joke about a body-double conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most recently, social media users took aim at Melania’s attendance at the late\u00a0Pope Francis’ funeral<\/a>, which took place over the weekend on Saturday (26 April).<\/p>\n

Melania could be seen wearing a black blazer dress with a veil covering her face.<\/p>\n
