Vance, who would later resign if elected \u2014 Trump dodged the question, instead taking the time to brag once again about his cognitive test results<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_2-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0addressed his recent claim that he is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/donald-trump-says-he-is-not-joking-about-being-president-for-third-term-11705852\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">&#8220;not joking&#8221; about running for a third presidential term<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which the U.S. Constitution explicitly prohibits \u2014 in a new interview.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_4-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">The president, 78, first made the comment during a phone interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-third-term-white-house-methods-rcna198752\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">NBC News<\/a>\u00a0last month,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/can-trump-run-for-a-third-term-as-president-11706059\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">insinuating that \u201cthere are methods\u201d of bypassing the Constitution<\/a>. When asked about these claims in a new interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7280106\/trump-interview-100-days-2025\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\"><em>TIME\u00a0<\/em>magazine<\/a>, Trump doubled down, stating there are some well-known \u201cloopholes&#8221; to the supreme law.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">As\u00a0<em>TIME<\/em>\u00a0asked Trump, \u201cYou recently said you were \u2018not joking\u2019 about seeking a third term and that there were methods to do it. Vance<\/a>\u00a0winning the 2028 election on a Vance-Trump ticket \u2014 and then resigning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_18-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">When asked if he would attempt this method in his latest interview with\u00a0<em>TIME<\/em>, Trump dodged the question and instead opted to brag about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/politics\/chris-wallace-donald-trump-cognitive-test\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">cognitive test he &#8220;aced&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 while insisting that his interviewers could not attain or surpass his results.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cI don\u2019t know anything about, what, look, all I can say is this, I am being inundated with requests,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_22-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cI&#8217;m doing a good job,\u201d he then told the magazine. \u201cGreat physical exam, and unlike every other president, I took the cognitive test and I aced it 100% and I bet you guys couldn&#8217;t get 100% on that exam. It&#8217;s a tough exam. You know, when you get into the mid questions, it gets to be pretty tricky and pretty tough, and the last questions are very tough, and I aced it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_23-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Trump continued, \u201cAnd I guarantee, I&#8217;d give you, I&#8217;d make a big, beautiful bet that you guys couldn&#8217;t ace it. But anyway. But look, it&#8217;s good to have you, it\u2019s a very nasty interview. They don\u2019t ask any of the good things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_30-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Earlier in his conversation with\u00a0<em>TIME<\/em>, Trump also reacted to a quote he gave a year ago, which contradicts his recently stated desire to seek a third presidential term.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_31-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_32-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cWhen we spoke to you a year ago, we asked whether you would challenge the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms. You said, and I quote, \u2018I&#8217;m going to serve one term. And though Trump didn&#8217;t expand on the &#8220;methods&#8221; or \u201cloopholes\u201d he could attempt to enlist to serve a third term, his supporters have proposed a few different possibilities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_44-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_45-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">The most straightforward would be amending the Constitution, either by a two-thirds vote in Congress or by two-thirds of U.S. states agreeing to call a constitutional convention to propose the changes.
