There’s clearly a reason people wear spacesuits when they go into space and, well, a YouTube video has proven just how crucial an item they really are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While you may’ve gotten away with wearing the wrong sort of trainers if you forgot yours on sports day, or still been able to go swimming in shorts if you forgot your swim costume, the same certainly can’t be said when it comes to hopping into a spacecraft and heading into outer\u00a0space<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Granted,\u00a0NASA<\/a>\u00a0nor any other major\u00a0space<\/a>\u00a0agency would ever send someone up to do things in space without a spacesuit however, if you had ever wondered what could happen to an astronaut should they enter space without a specially designed fit?<\/p>\n

Well, it’s not pretty.<\/p>\n

A video created by DG EYE\u00a0science<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0YouTube<\/a>\u00a0shows the scary details of what would happen if you\u2019re \u2018accidentally thrown out of your spacesuit\u2019.<\/p>\n

Not a really relatable situation for most of us, but it’s quite interesting as it\u2019s not what you might expect – although, you would definitely die.<\/p>\n

The video explicitly said you wouldn’t explode, so you can throw that concern out the window (or airlock).<\/p>\n

But depending on how you feel about your death, you might actually prefer it.<\/p>\n

Rather, in the first few seconds, the gases in your body \u2018will start to expand\u2019 and the air in your lungs \u2018will cause your lung tissue to rupture\u2019.<\/p>\n

Then, within five seconds, the \u2018water on the surface of eyes, skin and mouth\u2019 start to evaporate, and the water in your blood \u2018starts to boil\u2019.<\/p>\n

The simulation then shows the body swelling and becoming bigger, almost like a big human balloon, as the skin \u2018is elastic and strong enough to withstand pressure\u2019.<\/p>\n

Then, after blacking out, the heart eventually \u2018slows down and stops\u2019 before you would ‘die of asphyxiation’, with the video showing the body turning grey.<\/p>\n

According to Popular Science, an astronaut who is exposed to a space vacuum would experience their blood vaporising, along with the water in their body, in just 10 seconds.<\/p>\n

The body begins to expand (YouTube\/@dgeye)<\/cite><\/div>\n

They would then lose consciousness in 15 seconds as their body expands and lungs collapse.<\/p>\n

The unlucky astronaut would be paralysed, or more likely dead, in 30 seconds, most likely dying of asphyxiation or decompression.<\/p>\n

As one user commented: “Enlargement of body parts? Say no more.”<\/p>\n

“Props to the guy who went to space for us to know all this,” another added.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to see more of these terrifying simulation videos, there\u2019s also\u00a0a clip showing the gory details of what would happen if you were to fall into a jet airplane engine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The freak accident ordeal begins with a human figure being sucked into the engine before quickly disintegrating into small red particles \u2013 like you\u2019ve dropped a big tomato into a food processor.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, the close-up shots show just how fast death would arrive for the unlucky victim, as there really isn\u2019t much left of the animation within a couple of seconds.<\/p>\n
