Jessica Ikner is taking a leave of absence from her job in the wake of the shooting, a spokeswoman for the Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Office, told The Post.<\/p>\n
LCSO spokeswoman Javonni Hampton confirmed reports that Phoenix had learned to handle guns from his stepmom<\/p>\n
His family \u201cexposed him to safety as it relates to utilizing firearms,\u201d another sheriff\u2019s deputy spokeswoman said earlier.<\/p>\n
The department has publicly praised Jessica Ikner for having done a \u201ctremendous job\u201d as a deputy during her 18 years of service.<\/p>\n

Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil said Ikner \u201chad access\u201d to his sheriff\u2019s deputy stepmother\u2019s weapons, and \u201cthat was one of the weapons that was found at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
But it was later made clear that the gun was not in active service for law enforcement, and had been purchased by Jessica Ikner for her personal use after she received a newer gun from the sheriff\u2019s department, Hampton said.<\/p>\n
