Chuck Schumer\u2019s Tuesday morning appearance\u00a0on the talk show, which led to a heated debate between\u00a0Sunny Hostin\u00a0and\u00a0Sara Haines\u00a0at the Hot Topics table the following day.<\/p>\n After the panel grilled Schumer on his\u00a0controversial vote in support of a Republican-led spending bill, former\u00a0Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi criticized\u00a0Schumer for voting in support of the conservative measure that the politician said he did in order to avoid what he felt would lead to a much more harmful government shutdown.<\/p>\n Joy Behar\u00a0praised Schumer for looking out for the country\u2019s veterans and their benefits, especially as she has a personal connection to the subject. \u201cI hate to make speeches, but my father and my uncles all fought in World War II so that we would not have a fascist in the White House, and this is what we\u2019re getting right now,\u201d she said. \u201cI can almost cry today for these people, these vets who are losing everything. Why don\u2019t the Democrats go out there and march and stop fighting with each other? I\u2019m sick of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Hostin, who told Schumer to his face that she felt he \u201ccaved\u201d to Republicans with his vote, responded by noting that the Democrats are not fighting \u201ca unified fight,\u201d in her estimation.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are. No, no, no, the fact that Nancy is now out there criticizing Schumer? Stop it, already. It\u2019s enough,\u201d Behar clapped back, leading Hostin to ask, \u201cYou know why she\u2019s criticizing him? Because he should\u2019ve been fighting for that veteran.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cHe had the opportunity to fight for them. Chuck Schumer caved to the GOP and got nothing\u2026. the choice was not between a no vote on the partisan GOP spending bill and a possible shutdown, it was a choice between a no vote and forcing Republicans to explain why they walked away from that possibility of a bipartisan agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n Haines jumped in to predict that \u201cit would\u2019ve been worse if he didn\u2019t concede\u201d to Republican asks.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what was surprising about Pelosi saying that, because she knows from her experience as Speaker of the House that the negotiator told Chuck Schumer he didn\u2019t have the votes, he couldn\u2019t get the votes. He shut it down,\u201d she said, pointing out that his leadership was evident in that he courted only nine Democrats to follow his lead, which she saw as a specific strategic move. \u201cThey had exactly the number they needed to not shut down, so he gave cover to a ton of Democrats that probably, in common sense terms, knew their voters would backlash if they shut the government down.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018The View\u2019 cohosts.<\/span>ABC<\/p>\n An impassioned Hostin did not back down, telling Haines, \u201cHe gave coverage to the GOP to do whatever the heck they want to do,\u201d with Haines getting heated as she replied.<\/p>\n \u201cNobody\u2019s fooling themselves. It\u2019s a minority, they don\u2019t have the math, it\u2019s just basic math, there are facts there, it\u2019s not an opinion,\u201d said Haines. \u201cIf they bent the knee and pushed back just to show the public they were fighting, we would\u2019ve ended up worse off.
