One of their dogs Zinna also died in their home<\/p>\n Their pet Zinna, who had been picked up by Arakawa from a veterinary hospital on February 9 – two days before her death – was found dead in a\u00a0a kennel in a bathroom closet about 10 to 15 feet from Arakawa’s partially mummified remains.<\/p>\n Officials believe the animal had been crated due to the recent medical care it had received.<\/p>\n A German Shepherd named Bear and a second dog named Nikita were found running around the 12 acre property – with a dog door allowing them access to food and water.<\/p>\n The dogs were discovered loose when the mummified bodies of Hackman and Arakawa were discovered on February 26 by two maintenance workers.<\/p>\n Dr. Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Investigator for the state of\u00a0New Mexico<\/a><\/span>, said their deaths had both been ruled as natural, and that no signs of internal or external trauma were found.<\/p>\n This followed days of intense speculation around the mysterious deaths.<\/p>\n A\u00a0CDC<\/a><\/span>\u00a0source told DailyMail.com that while the couple’s main home did not show any signs of rodent activity, some of the property’s outbuildings – including a garage and two casitas – had rodent droppings and other evidence of rodent activity.<\/p>\n Hantavirus is typically is reported in spring and summer, often due to exposures that occur when people are near mouse droppings in homes, sheds or poorly ventilated areas.<\/p>\n While hantavirus is found throughout the world, most cases in the U.S. have been found in western states.<\/p>\n The virus can cause a severe and sometimes deadly lung infection. Symptoms can include coughing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest.<\/p>\n Hackman – who was devoted to his wife – was forced to face death – without her by his side – pictured 1994<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The mortality of the hantavirus strain in the south west of the United States is about 38% to 50%, and is not transmissible from person to person, Dr Jarrell added.<\/p>\n Jarrell said there was no reliable method to get an exact time for death, but concluded that Hackman probably died around February 18.<\/p>\n On February 11, they said she had an email conversation with her massage therapist before later in the afternoon going to a farmers market.<\/p>\n She was caught on CVS surveillance footage shortly after the market, before then going to a local pet food store.<\/p>\n Her car was then seen on surveillance entering the gated community at 5:15pm on February 11.<\/p>\n Officials said that numerous emails went unopened on February 11, and that there was\u00a0no further communication from her account after that day<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n Detectives are still waiting on retrieving her full cell phone data, but said her last known activity was February 11.<\/p>\n Jarrell said:\u00a0‘Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer\u00b4s disease,’ Jarrell said.<\/p>\n Chief Medical Investigator Heather Jarrell confirmed Hackman was in a ‘very poor state of health’<\/p>\n<\/div>\n ‘He was in a very poor state of health.
